I am surprised we haven't heard from all those who cover themselves in the Union Jack, maybe i have them on the block who knows, or are they down the recruitment office.. signing up for queen and country, reading themselves for what they think heroes are made.

We will find out in the days to come, no doubt, now it would be interesting to see what china has to say.
They have just signed a 100 billion contract with Russia to supply them more oil. Overall they have around 180 billion worth of business with them. I doubt they will say anything positive about the west. If anything it will motivate them to take Taiwan as no one has done anything about it!

All these sanctions will do nothing since China has a population of people over 1 billion.

What is more concerning is the other NATO countries like Hungary, Latvia and Poland were once part of the Soviet state. If Putin doesn’t see Ukraine as a legitimate country, then that will apply to the others too.

If he does push in to those other countries then we literally have world war 3 as all NATO members have to come to their aid.

If that happens then in war the natural thing to do is to target Russian income (oil). With China being such a huge oil importer of theirs it might also drag them in to the war.

This whole thing stinks.

I don’t know about Ukraine but military aircraft don’t use Heathrow
Not my point obviously. If we were resisting an invasion & you saw ENEMY helicopter formations sweeping into Heathrow... That would be a pretty goof sign that you were in deep shit as they weren't being shot at.

This is a massive black mark against the west. Standing idly by and letting the Russians just take Ukraine.

The US, UK, NATO…are not the superpowers they claim to be.

The Yanks are great at bombing the desert but are doing fuck all when they’ve got a real fight on their hands.

We are no better.

This is a lovely how-to training manual for China to take Taiwan. The US will do jack shit when they take Taiwan as well.
What do you think they should do?

what do you suggest the west do - do you trust Putin not to escalate (or threaten to) escalate with nukes?

this is'nt a Tom Clancy novel we're all currently part of - its real life, with real life consequences

I, probably like some other people on here, have been to war, and I have to be honest, it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience. All "Boys Own" stuff until you actually get there.
The thought of bairns armed and fighting for their lives breaks my heart.
All politicians should be forced to be on the front line, and leading the way when they give that order, then maybe, just maybe, we would see less conflict.

Please God, let it end soon.
The counter-argument to this is that diplomacy only works when the other side wants to come to the table. Giving Putin everything he wants just makes him stronger and means we’ll be in a worse position when the inevitable comes.

What do you think they should do?

I see absolutely no reason why NATO collectively should not be helping defend Ukraine.

I appreciate this is invoking Godwin’s law but considering Putin is the second man since Hitler to wage war against a fellow European nation I think the comparison is just - letting him get away with this is just Appeasement V2.

We cannot stand idly by and let Ukraine fall. If we do, China will see there’s absolutely nothing stopping them taking Taiwan. Putin will set his sights on another country after Ukraine.

 The West May as well just pack up and go home then. If they will never confront him because of the nuke issue (And it is a huge issue) they we may as well just accept our Western role as submissive and let him retake the Baltic’s and anything else he fancies

You mean the one who rigged the vote and then repealed the constitution of Ukraine to join NATO which was the vote of the people?

And is now concidentally now part of the Kremlin? Aye that one.

The only shame about it is that he wasn't assassinated.
He didn't rig the 2010 vote, it was verified by the thousands of observers.

You seem to be missing the point that millions of people in Ukraine have close ties to Russia, it's not an international crime. You pointed out the Hungarian ties in one of the Oblasts in the West. This is a problem Ukraine has also experienced in previous iterations of its territorial boundaries. There's long standing animosity and conflicting beliefs in the west and east of the country and it's something it has failed to resolve under a succession of leaders.

Absolute disgrace and an utter embarrassment that Europe in 2022 stands on the brink of this mind.

0 lessons from history learned yet again.

If anything it will motivate them to take Taiwan as no one has done anything about it!

America has a defence treaty with Taiwan where it must help defend so Taiwan is safe. Otherwise Taiwan would of non-existed decades ago.

But you're absolutely right on other parts.
I think this will have taught everyone who is currently not in a pact that you're in serious serious bother. I bet whoever runs Moldova aint sleeping at night for a while as his countries next door to Ukraine without a pact.

There’s definitely paralells and history should teach us that it’s unlikely to be Ukraine where it ends.

Nothing is ever enough for power hungry leaders, and as mentioned in this thread, he has little to lose and seemingly unbroken obedience.

Lets hope you get conscripted, then maybe we’ll see how keen you are to peddle your warmongering utter bullshit. At times you really are an immature prick.
