Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

A determined armed population would be difficult to subdue. Hungary 1956 were giving it a good go with a few molotov cocktails
ultimately doomed to defeat. its a sad testament to the times that the current regime in charge in Hungary has forgotten what people were fighting against back then.

Sounds like dads army.

The Russian army would make mince meat out of them.

I posted a Twitter link the other day from a director of Russian studies at a major university.

Basically said Russia have a lot of equipment and a very strong Spetznar division of about 20/25k soldiers. Outside of that their rank and file are typically very young and they have a major issue with drunkenness and behaviour. You also have the morale issue of fighting a foreign war in a hostile land.

Basic message was this won’t be easy and for all their military strength outside their special forces their troops are not renowned for proffessionalism or competence

And the prospect of fighting a war vs lads who as much as Putin will demonise them, are basically the same as them.

Like us fighting the Scots.

Interesting the Yanks have been doing this for a few days. They have stopped flying their surveillance planes near the border and are only using drones. Not sure if this suggests that they are worried that they could be shot down if they get too close or if it’s a precaution that they know if one was accidentally it would cause a major escalation. Regardless they were a few days ago flying right to the border. Now only with UAVs

He is a lying snake that is desperately clinging onto whatever power he has and has been found out in almost every aspect of his job that he does has been corrupted in some way to financially benefit him and his party and his friends.

A war not triggered by us would be a great from his viewpoint to paint himself as the second coming of Churchill to try and bury everything that is coming out about him because he doesn’t care about this country, he doesn’t care about Ukraine he only cares about himself.

There are no words harsh enough to describe Johnson because with each minute that passes something else happens to reveal that past words used to describe his antics don’t even come close to describing what a piece of shit he is.
Absolutely spot on my friend!

It was good for a cheap exotic holiday. My first two independent holidays were to Soviet Central Asia and to the Caucasus (hence my avatar - a pic I took of a poster in Alma-Ata.) Each trip, £400 all-in.

But it'd never have wanted to live under that system in a million years.
I'd have loved to have seen some of it.

I'm pleased I witnessed it, but I was forever running into trouble with the guides, and almost got kicked off one tour entirely when I bunked off the official schedule in Leningrad and headed off round the streets on my own - only to be passed by the tour bus when I was walking back to the hotel.

When it comes to 'Freedom', I'm not bothered about communal vaxxes and wearing masks, but I am bothered about the right to go where I want and say what I want.

Was up by the the Bulgarian/ Romanian border today, about 15 tanks lined up. Guessing NATO have asked the Bulgarians to go and help out.

Just hope my mechanic ain't been working on em as they won't make it over the Danube!!

Makes sense not to offer temptation. UAVs are expensive but no loss of life if a “Ukrainian separatist” decides to shoot off a SAM.

I don't think the flight paths are too much different to what we saw last week. They were avoiding getting too close to the border even then, for the reasons you've highlighted.

What is interesting is that they're doing more monitoring of the Belarus - Poland border than they were last week. Also a lot of their flightpaths tend to be over inner Ukraine, south of Kiev for example. Are they gathering info on terrain/positions etc. in the event a full invasion occurs..

There could be other assets in the area that just aren't transponding.

I wonder how the average Russian feels about the current situation and the rest of the world’s feelings towards their country.
