Ukraine was years away from joining NATO before he invaded. It's just an excuse by Putin.I’ve read we get 5% or so of our supply from Russia. Seems Putin’s gamble is that as prices of energy ( and therefore pretty much everything) soar with Nordstream 2 being binned, it will be politically untenable for the likes of Germany. Or at least create political instability in countries reliant upon that supply. Massive social media bot campaign likely to follow to try to sow the seeds of this, coupled with regular cyber attacks on particularly banking. Can see this developing into NATO having to post more and more forces in the likes of Estonia and Lithuania with potentially Russian forces not far away. Hugely unstable situation where any mistake could escalate things quickly. Very dangerous, a financial and political tinderbox. The other factor is Russias claims over Ukrainian territory means under guidelines for a country to join NATO, particularly that any country entering must have no ongoing territorial disputes, means Ukraine couldn’t join.
