The president of Russia said Ukraine plans to create its own nuclear weapons with Soviet nuclear know-how.
After describing the country as a US colony with a puppet regime, Vladimir Putin accused western intelligence services of helping Ukraine commit crimes.
Mr Putin said if Ukraine gets weapons of mass destruction, the global situation will change drastically.

It’s Ukraine, not the Ukraine. Of course most people speak Russian as Russia threw millions of their people into all of the satellite states under Stalin to push the “White Russia” empire and populate them with native Russians. You now have areas in most of these places where families are third & fourth generation Russian who identify as Russian, speak Russian, eat Russian food, attended Russian speaking schools, marry other “Russians”.

Well i see pedantry is rife here . Ukraine is a country and 'The Ukraine' was a geographical area before Independence. Glad you pointed it out.

There were large areas where populations like Tarters occupied that were then occupied by ethnic Russians and Ukrainians after Russian expansion. This happen long before Stalin was on the scene.

There are ethnic Russians that identify as Ukrainian, there are ethnic Ukrainians that have Russian as a first language and a large percentage that are happy to identify as both. My only point is that the situation is more complex than most people think.
