Interesting and surprising view from China

I'm normally highly critical of China, but that is a welcome view given the increasing gravity of the situation.
Wait until China go for a spot of expansion and that gets quoted back.
They will never practice what they preach but if it makes Russia think twice then that will do for now.

If Russia actually invades then China will not condemn them however. Their position right now is to back Russia as a strategic bulkwark against the west but stopping short of backing outright war against Ukraine.

Yeah they will be sympathetic to Russias concerns. China don't want a united west with an ever increasing NATO membership either.

I would think China would continue to buy Russian oil and gas etc, if their are global sanctions against Russia, giving them an economic lifeline.

But if they are against Russia attacking, hopefully it will give Russia a bit more to think about.

Really don't want to see a war break out.

When China talks about territorial integrity it does so from the position of having a centuries old map it claims secures its right to islands in the South China Sea, what that means in the context of Ukraine becomes anyone's guess.

Satellites and spy planes soaking up all the communications.
They're not proving very illuminating, we've had at least two invasion dates come and go.

That wasn't what I referring to though. I should have been clearer, it was the claims of who is doing what across the dividing lines in Donbass which has been the latest area of alarm.

It will be tough for Putin. The Ukrainian armed forces are no mugs. They have been preparing for this for a decade and have pretty decent numbers of troops and equipment.

It’s also considerably harder to try and win and hold territory then it is to defend it. Add in that the West and NATO will give Ukraine a production line of endless supplies of advanced weapons if it does finally kick off and the longer it goes on and the more protracted it gets the harder it will be for Putin.

Sadly I can see that being to the detriment of Ukraine with Putin looking for a quick victory (Of whatever it is he is actually trying to accomplish) and probably using overwhelming force including against civilian areas to achieve it. He isn’t going to want to send his troops into towns and cities with entrenched resistance without carpet bombing them first
Even isn’t brave/stupid enough to start killing western civilians ffs

Putin is going to invade and the left wing in this country that mobilised such passion against intervention in Iraq is Putins biggest cheerleader in this country.

Fuck Putin.

Heartbreaking that he’s going to invade. As someone who has visited and loved Ukraine I am genuinely gutted about this.
Just who exactly on the left are cheering on Putin to invade Ukraine?

Humint

Not sure that US intelligence can be relied upon to provide accurate assessments. They had years of intelligence gathering in Afghanistan and they couldn't have got it more wrong. US intelligence is in the doldrums.
There’s nothing wrong with their intelligence at all. It’s probably the best information gathering operation on the planet.

Tell me more about this Afghanistan intelligence you think they’ve gotten wrong
