Would imagine there was probably an actual first choice prior to the sacking that then played hard to get. We've then had to go 2nd choice. Given the defoe signing, I suspect Keane probably was 1st choice and contacted prior to sacking and has then put up a series of demands and assurances that the board refused and we're now going somewhere else.
 
Don’t know enough about him, but if the club think he’s the right choice give him a longer contract to make a difference. 3 months if true is embarrassing
