Roy Keane

Speakman certainly put himself needlessly into the firing line with such a placid interview 30 mins before a game. Especially given it was a week after a 0-6 hammering. A home defeat to the bottom side to kill off our automatic hopes only compounded it.

Genuinely bet they wish they hadn’t delivered it now, or maybe delivered it in a different way. Very naive
This.

If he was unsure how to handle the interview he should have just politely declined to appear on it.

And then resigned

It’s not a difficult task to do an interview without flattening the entire momentum
Seems to me he was more interested in giving some corporate/leadership wish washy answer to try and appear competent.

It's backfired spectacularly.

Surely he would have seen Keane's comments the night before on ITV and should have moulded his response on Saturday to match, or at least should have just declined to comment.

My take is (and only my opinion), it was agreed after last Friday's meeting but then Speakman did his interview, probably to look like the club were still in control of things and doing due diligence, but knowing a deal was done. Maybe no malice intended but it had the opposite effect as intended as it upset Keane's camp who suddenly thought "what the fuck's going on I thought we had an agreement?". In turn things have had to be smoothed over which may not have been easy and maybe close to collapsing so the club have had to put a plan B back into action which had originally been 'stood down'.
Hopefully things with the Keane camp have been smoothed over and back on track.
You went from 'my take' to 'hopefully things have been smoothed over'. Total speculation to fact via a total work of fiction.

Pages of this invention coming out of this thread and people then proceed to get annoyed by this invention.

If Speakman says anything there are 40 different ways of making up a problem within a day. If he doesn't say anything there are 50 different reasons it's all gone wrong made up. God help the lot of you if you end up on the politics forum you'll be lost in the moon landings before lunch.

On a serious note, it will 100% be Speakman’s fault for his recruitment. Left us terribly short at the back this window.
He'd just blame Keane for not buying into the model

Then after leaving the club he'd come out saying Keane wouldn't have been his pick.

All too predictable.

You just know he's the type who would probably blame anyone and anything else for a **** up.

Contrast that with Bob Murray on the Roker Report Pod a few year ago - fully took the blame for getting the Wilkinson appointment completely wrong.

The more I think about it, the more I don;t think Keane is a fit right now.

I doubt he would work with a DOF/the current structure. I also don't want the club to abandon that set up for the whim of an angry Irish man who hasn't managed for almost a decade.

Loads of questioning of KLD and more specifically Speakman.
Will all be forgiven if they manage to get the Keane deal over the line?
It always seems a bit all or nothing on here at times. 🤔

I'm not saying the process should be ripped up but Speakman needs to be asked questions.
