I'd imagine that RK would welcome some help in this regard given the exasperation he felt constantly with the WAG culture. TBH RK may even be impressed with our recruitment model given the mixture of very promising youth team promotions, astute loans and killer acquisitions like Stewart and the unknown but highly rated Matete.I have similar reservations to you. But on the budget/recruitment point, Keane wouldn’t be the only one picking the players. Speakman has spoken a lot about getting the right mental profile of player in. So if Keane is being offered shortlists of players for positions, one would hope the players are going to be tough and react well to Keane’s style. It’s up to the recruitment team to find good fits for the club, and that includes fitting with the Head Coach
During my 24 years in the forces I had some absolutely horrific officers(rodneys) managing me and dozens of sergeant majors and RSMs and I would have to say that you would always respond best to the firm but fair approach and especially by those leading by example. Any Bellshill merchants amongst them who simply resorted to bullying would soon get rumbled and isolated.
Gary Neville stated that Keane had it all and was born a leader. Despite being born with leadership qualities he also happened to be the most technically gifted and bravest player, possibly of all time. What stands out to me though was Neville's statement that Keano could make you feel 10 feet tall and that everybody wanted to please him.
I've done a lot of managing in my time too and have always found that setting an example by working the hardest, especially on matters that impacted most on the employees, went a long way. Making sure that you showed a personal interest in them too with regular updates on how each of them are doing, while enquiring about their wellbeing and their family's too always was appreciated. The snippets I've read about Keane indictates that he too works in this way.
I'd imagine that he will make it very clear what his standards are, what the boundaries are and what the consequences will be for breaking them and all done up front at the very start.
From then in its about being consistent and pragmatic with them.
Easy this management stuff
Oh yeah and there's always the advice to pass it to a red and white shirt and then move.
