We have been employing managers who failed in the first division or Championship!Sadly Keane falls into the category of "failed manager" as his record clearly shows.
Been overlooked for years now. There's a reason for that
Keane at least has a promotion on his CV tbf.
We have been employing manager's who failed in the first division or Championship!
Keane fell a bit short in the premier league after an amazing promotion. He's in the Farke, Dean Smith, Chris Wilder envelope. I would happily have any of them in charge. They have way better CV's than the likes of Johnson, Grayson and Parkinson. A totally different level
Up until a certain game, Chopra did an alright job for us, especially in that first season. You could argue his goal at Villa was the one that kept us up. We were a newly promoted side. What were people really expecting?
I'm not cherry picking. The good far outweighed the bad where his signings were concerned. Where they didn't work out, we invariably got our money back. The one exception there being McCartney, who became the forerunner of a problem that plagued the club long after Keane's departure, whereby we let him run his contract down. That wasn't Roy Keane's fault.
But that’s not a promotion that’s built solely on sweat, determination and balls. Teams that go up may have some/all of those elements but they’re also good teams for their level who are well drilled, do specific things better than their rivals and more often than not have a plan. If it was only about having balls then that fat Scottish mess would have taken gillingham up years ago.
Keane’s punditry is great entertainment - but the vast majority of it is complete bollocks designed purely to appeal to the old heads who couldn’t successfully manage The Dog and Duck. He’s an intelligent man so perhaps he knows that this act is a successful meal ticket, but if it’s a true representation of his views on football, he’s most certainly yesterdays man.
Well said that manThing is, Keane is still as relevant and is as big box office as he was when he walked thru the doors of the academy all that time ago. People still take notice when he says something and I've no doubt the younger lads would absolutely buzz off being managed by him, whilst the older lads would at least be able to respect what Keane has done in the game to take instruction.
Maybe something that could be looked at is the coaches who would come in alongside Keane, maybe that's where the fresh thinking could come from? Although I don't think much has changed in terms of playing league one football that Keane would be that much of a dinosaur....he's currently employed as a pundit to watch and keep up with the modern game.
I don't think he's a bad shout, probably better than most the names on the usual lists.![]()
Why do you think that. He had one good season with us before he bottled it and failed at Ipswich before running away to do media work.Maybe mate, but I think he'd do a better job than most of the names I've seen being mentioned. He'd also have done a better job than the bunch we've had in since we've been down here.

Billy Davies who went up through the play offs rather than as Champions? Davies who left Derby when they adrift at the bottom of the league rather than a team who were struggling but not in a hopeless position. He has, but we have players in our squad who were in nappies when he got that promotion.
It was great at the time, but he's not had a successful season in management in over a decade. It's backwards.
Is someone like Billy Davies in your category then? Would you be happy with him? Haway man, Keane isn't in that bracket. Not anymore.
Why do you think that. He had one good season with us before he bottled it and failed at Ipswich before running away to do media work.
Aye, philosophies and models are an important part of the modern game. The days put'em under pressure and get in their face are gone.Given he was pretty aggravated in his interview with Neville over the increasing popularity of philosophies, I'm not sure how well they would get on.
I would have him but players nowadays are absolute wet wipesWhats moved one in League One? There's no- one playing total football in this league apart from our last knacker with his protocols and POMOS....look where that got us against Bolton.
All you need down here is someone the players will take notice of and to play the game simple enough for the League One standard players to understand.
I feel we're trying to be too clever when all you need is some sweat, determination and some balls to get out of this league.
Not really they've just renamed it the high press.Aye, philosophies and models are an important part of the modern game. The days put'em under pressure and get in their face are gone.
I agree, so a non-starter really.i don't think he'd work within the current structure like

You're comparing apples to oranges.
Keane would give us an outstanding chance of promotion this season. Bookmark it.Well, Farke and Wilder both left their clubs at the bottom of the table, unlike Keane. Also unlike Keane, Wilder has been able bounce back in his next job and improve a Championship team and turn them into promotion contenders, whereas Keane went approximately nowhere with Ipswich. Farke has took a job in another country. And they've had success in the present day, whereas when Keane last had success as a manager Tony Blair was still Prime Minister and smartphones didn't exist.
If anyone's comparing apples to oranges, it's you.
