Targett - second choice left back at Villa
Burn - only just become a regular at Brighton
Bruno - unknown, can’t get a game behind Fred
Trippier - decent, but 31 years old
Wood - 25m

Hardly setting the world alight are they?

If money wasn’t an issue, why are they signing average shite?
£115m to try and escape relegation, I hope there’s no trouble bedding in the new players

the Brazilian i know nowt about, trippier is a canny signing, wood and burn are lower half premiership players, is it going to be enough to get the points on the board as they have a hard 2nd half of the season, if they are buying burn to play centre half with lacells that partnership is a accident waiting to happen, taggert is another who is ok but wont pull up any trees

I think we’re probably kidding ourselves if we think they won’t stay up if they sign all those players. Targett is a good left back. If nothing else the kick up the arse it will give the squad will help. They’ve been very fortunate to stay so close despite winning only 1 game before Leeds. They should have been 7/8 points adrift. I think they’re likely to stay up now relatively comfortably. If they do and start splashing some real cash in summer whilst we’re fannying about in league 1 it will basically be the start of a pretty grim period ahead. Still darkness before the dawn and all that

Not convinced mate.

Watford will be a different proposition under Hodgson, Burnley have just bought a better player than they had in Wood, Norwich are by no means dead and buried.

Or the other players will see these lads coming in earning 2-3 times more than them and down tools.🤔

Last time I watched them play was v Watford. They looked slow as fuck, had one shot on target, and looked vulnerable to being carved open at any time 2nd half, even defending a one goal lead against a very poor side.

Don’t think signing Dan Burn and Matt Targett addresses that. This Brazilian could well be a good signing though - hopefully he’ll do his cruciate v Paraguay on Wednesday.

Other teams at the bottom have been making moves in terms of players and managers, and in all the mags euphoria it seems it’s been forgotten how absolutely shite they’ve been this year - going into February with 2 wins and 15 points.

They still haven’t got an available goalscorer, and imo the defence is still shit, and they’ve still got a manager who isn’t capable of fixing it.

Maybe I’m biased but I think they’ll go down.

This. One thing the present lot gives is hard work. That could now go out of the window if any of them have their dummies in place

He's only played 3 games for Brazil since making his debut 15 months ago. He hasn't figured in their last 4 games at least. He's behind that world beater Fred in the pecking order 🤣

based on stats alone on their new signing, i think newcastle have managed to strengthen burnley and not themselves by buying wood.

I'm buzzing they think Dan Burn will sort their defense. He's doing well alongside an exceptional Webster he isn't going to suddenly lead a defense.

He's very much a centre half partner rather than leader. The mags needed a leader to sort their defense. They haven't signed one.

My mate reckons he’s been their best defender this season. Great signing according to him but he also reckons Defoe has had a poor career

They’ve definitely signed improvements.

They’re surely gonna run over the FFP within 2 years?

You might have a point on Watford mind. I think they do have enough quality and maybe Woy can get them playing. But I think Burnley will go this year as will Norwich

How come the thread got locked after you got punped 6 zip by Bolton Wanderers (Big Sam Speshul Relashunship(c))

Despite what some say on here, I think on paper you've done decent business. Wood is an outlier who you signficantly overpaid for, the rest have seemingly been secured for decent fees though and if Targett and Burn come in, that's a good amount of proven PL experience that's been added.

I do think it's been scattergun, but a good manager would see you safe with that squad. Big test for Howe. If you had a Nuno or even a Hodgson, I'd say survival would be nailed on. I imagine the Eddie love-in could quite quickly go sour if progress isn't instant. He's the weak link now IMO.
Can't disagree with any of that, all signings apart from Wood are better than what we have, thats the only way to improve....Wood is different to what we have....

Due to Mike Ashley being semi sensible with transfers, there's quite a large gap that Newcastle can spend into before it becomes an issue.
You can have a net loss of 100m over 3 years (I believe), and when the Saudi's took over they had made a small profit over the last previous years.

No to mention that the full cost of transfers only comes into the profit and loss account over contract length as amortisation. The wages will come in in full, but the have so much slack down to Ashley's good management it's not true.
