Joni Mitchell leaving Spotify

"Rogan reportedly attracts 11 million users per episode; Young brings in around 6 million users per month."

Throw in Mitchell's share and the balance could quickly fall in favour of the artists?

Or use their parents subscription.
A few years ago I used to use an mp3 player and my son suggested I try Spotify, but as I can be a bit stuck in my ways, I said no thanks.

A couple of years ago he upgraded his subscription to family level and as a Christmas present shared this with us all.

Spotify was a revelation for me and has turned out to be one of the best and most used Christmas presents ever.

For me it's not about how influential Joni and Neil are to the audience, it's how influential they are to other artists.
Artists have been desperate to put the boot into spotify for ages and most of them are pro-vaccine.
pulling your music for a while is an easy way to look on the right side of history and you can always put it back on later when they make some gesture or other to appease the talent.
whilst friij might not know any Neil young I'm pretty sure Ed will.

Be interesting to see what percentage of spotify premium payers are of an older demographic. I'd imagine loads of kids just listen for free.
What do you actually get for Spotify premium membership - is it just to have it ad free? I've been using the free version since my late 20s, it still suits me up to now as the ads aren't frequent enough to really annoy me and I'm not one who wants loads of storage space taken up with physical CDs/records.

What do you want Spotify to do?
Get rid of Rogan

You can’t pick songs can you? Just play albums

no adverts and can download stuff to play outside or offline

Pain in the arse this. If a few more follow I'm going to have to change streaming services.
I'm on Joni's side mind - Rogan is an absolute prick, had that other dickhead Peterson on yesterday too.
Hopefully spotify come to their senses or their whole business model will be redundant
Thought you would have kept your vinyl/CD collection @cluffy. Not that I think that it`ll actually happen, but my fear of online services was one day they`d close down
Didn’t Neil Young win the first Pop Idol? Beat Gareth Gates in the final?
I think your getting him mixed up with the Hippy bloke from the Young Ones

Seems they also have content by the likes of Pegida, source: the woke Times

It raises a whole bunch of questions about the responsibilities that content providers have. Is free speech ever right to be constrained?

I've still got all my vinyl and cds. Not arsed about them tbh. Always been more bothered about the music than the way I consume it.

Someone saying a product is shit is not the owners doing it, it’s nothing to do with the product anyway.
Their product is having music that the consumer is willing to pay for. If artists disappear that effects the quality of their product.
As far as I am concerned Neil Young is one of 10-12 artists I listen to regularly (weekly). It would only take 3 or 4 of those artists to disappear from Spotify for me to stop paying for their product.
