Cork Area

Without doubt (and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise) West Cork is the nicest part of Ireland. The stretch of coast from Clonakilty all the way to Castletownbere is stunning. The food and drink is better than anywhere I've been and the scenery is amazing. The last bus from Skibbereen to Cork is a t7.30pm and the town is only starting up then!!!!The public bus from Skibbereen to Cork also takes 2hrs!!! Seaside villages like Glandore, Union Hall Castletownshend, Baltimore, Ballydehob Schull all need to be visited and that is not really possible using the bus. They tend to be the best spots for pubs and restaurants. Also you have some gorgeous off shore islands like Sherkin, Cape Clear and Bere Island that should be visited. Any chance you could hire a car? £20-£30 a day and it will save you money on Taxis.

Another factor is the time of year you are planning to travel. West Cork really comes alive in the summer with festivals etc but can be a bit quiet at winter time.
Cork City is your only option really if you don't have a car. Cork is a great little city for pubs and restaurants but some are only just opening up now again after covid restrictions. Day trips are possible but you really won't get the most out of the trip.

The one thing to be aware of is the money! Ireland is an expensive place to live (Best price pint €5).

If you need any more info just ask me.

It’s better than Dublin.

As mentioned Kinsale is worth a visit. I enjoyed Cobh as well, which is the last place the titanic stopped before heading across the Atlantic

You can't go wrong with a Cork and a trip down to Clon. Great places for a night out.
Kinsale good too.
About 20 years ago me and the missus popped into a bar in Clonakilty that was advertising live music.
The walls of the bar were festooned with photos of some bloke alongside the likes of McCartney, Dylan, Jagger, etc...
Turns out the bar was owned by Noel Redding who was the bass player for Jimi Hendrix. He was the turn that night.

Cracking post though as you would expect me to say Kerry is actually the best place in Ireland but West Cork is a very close second!

I would love to reminisce about my trip to Clonakilty but I can barely remember it. It was a mates stag do. Think it was the same weekend as the 2nd Lions test against South Africa in 2009. Very messy indeed.

There's a place called Youghal about 20km East of Cork on the coast road. A restaurant called Ahernes, one of the best I've been to. There's also a great pub there right on the water where they filmed some scenes from Moby Dick with Gregory Peck. I recommend a stop there, you'll be glad you did.
I've eaten in Ahearnes & while I wasn't looking forward to it before we went, because it's supposed to be a bit of a posh place, I have to admit, the food was 2nd to none.

& the pub you're talking about is called Moby Dick's. I was there a couple of months ago. It’s a bit grim inside but people don't seem to mind & it gets lots of tourists, as well as locals.

Played Kinsale 7s more times than I care to remember or for that matter can't remember.

Went on holiday there great place but it was back in 2006. Kinsale is lovely but Cobh was pretty rough. Got hounded for having Sunderland top on it was during Mick McCarthy era and he wasn’t very popular around Cork due to it being Keano territory.
