Neil Young taken off Spotify

Why does he feel he has the right to dictate how they operate as a company? If he doesn’t like the platform, he should have just left. Sounds like he wants input in to their wider content.

He said you can’t have both.

It is exactly that. He should have just said I’m leaving the platform because you host Rogan.

He didn't exactly say that, apparently he said (the original open letter has been taken down apparently) :-

"I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he wrote, according to . “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”

A little different nuance when in context, most reports seem to focus on the second part not the first - can't think why.

‘They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.’

The implication is clear - boot Rogan off or I’m (NY) leaving.

NY has clearly tried to use his influence in attempt to cancel someone he doesn’t like off the most popular streaming platform in the world - luckily he failed.

Surely "I want all my music off their platform" means he wants his music off their platform?

That’s true. That’s why he spent 10mins hoying feedback about & blowing paper on the stage to represent hurricane Katrina when I went to see him. That & chantting “fuck you” to the crowd for 5mins. Glad I paid £63. One of the highlights was Blowin’ In The Wind. Great cover. £63.
I was there. Brilliant concert.

This has introduced Rogan to a whole new audience who'd previously never heard of him, fantastic stuff.
Me for one. I listened yesterday but just for a couple of minutes. I then listened to some NY tunes for free on Amazon music.

Let’s be honest, Neil has not produced anything of worth for decades. I have all the stuff I need.

I only started listening to his podcasts recently after Twitter cancelled Robert Malone just as he was about to appear on there.

Telling people 'you can't say that' only drives people to want to hear what it is they want to stop them from hearing.

in this instance isnt young saying he doesn't want to be on the same platform where someone is on a different wave length to his views?

It's much like Jordan Peterson who is one of Rogans favourite guests. Peterson said "Every time the Left protests against me for being an evil capitalist my audience figures go up and donations to my Patreon account flood in".

He hasn't tried to cancel Rogan ffs. He's basically said he doesn't think someone spreading covid misinformation should be on the same platform his stuff is on. Spotify have obviously sided with Rogan, because his misinformation brings them in more money.

It's not a hot take, Rogan's dangerous ramblings shouldn't be on the platform.

Reports today that Spotify are losing subscribers and that the share price has tanked.
