Could've quoted them 20M, irrelevant as the player himself had no intention of joining Newcastle.

Would be a quality signing tbf, really highly rated player. Downie tweeted he's having a medical, fair play, best bit of business they've done in a long time.

It’s an absolute joke that the only player we have managed to get in since the window has opened ( Trippier deal was already in place ) is Chris wood a signing I would have expected from the Ashley era.
Obviously I’m over the moon that Ashley has gone and id have taken multiple relegations if it meant getting rid of him but this recruitment drive is an absolute shambles.
A couple of things are obviously happening here, we are failing miserably at selling the project to players which I suppose is a bit understandable given our predicament but surely it’s not the impossible job everyone thinks it is, Il use Juventus as an example here they got relegated but they managed to keep decent players because they knew that they were going to go back up we haven’t even been relegated yet we still can’t even attract players from much smaller clubs while probably increasing their wages 10 fold, if Del Piero and Pavel Neved can slum it in Serie B for a year then im sure Linegaard, Alli or whichever other Player that we are linked with can.
Recruitment was always going to be massive moving forward absolutely massive probably the most important part of the project in the early years and that’s why we needed big names to help us with this or someone with brilliant contacts, if we are desperate which we clearly are why aren’t we greasing the super agents who will be able to convince players to come.
There’s no reason at all we shouldn’t be able to nab this guy from Lyon if we go all out for him, the other clubs linked with him are gonna wait till the summer and maybe he won’t even get the move he wants but what he will know for sure if he comes here he’s gonna be getting an absolute fortune which will probably set up him and his family for the rest of there lives hes probs on about 10-20 grand at Lyon if that he would instantly go to a 100 grand here he should be willing to have a possible year out of the premier league if needs be to make this happen, two years ago playing in the Brazilian league he would have been paid peanuts this is the type of deal that should be pretty easy to complete and one where money does actually talk because a lot of the South American players come from poverty so money Is a huge factor if we can’t get this deal done then there’s something seriously seriously wrong.
Ffs if we can’t get these deals done then go for deals we would be able to complete you can’t tell me we shouldn’t be able to attract anyone we pretty much wanted from the championship we were even able to do this during the Ashley era and you can’t tell me there’s not players there who would instantly improve our squad and chances of staying up these past few years have shown there’s real quality in the lower leagues I’ve said it before but come on 25m and a 100 grand a week for Chris wood? I’m guessing we could have got any player we wanted from the championship with that fee and that wages.
The fact we didn’t already have deals set up already beggars belief to be honest and so far we have wasted 3 weeks i trying to get players, I think back a good few years and remember Portsmouth in the relegation zone and they managed to bring real quality in to keep them up which they did and I’m talking about Players like Defoe Crouch and Diarra they did it because they offered them massive wages so if Portsmouth can do it then Newcastle United should have no problems doing it."
