LEGO builds for Adults

Do people still make 'proper' models of these sort of things (rather than Lego). I've seen some impressive model train layouts that include all sorts of stuff and they just seem much better than Lego. Maybe I'm comparing apples and oranges.
Yes mate. My uncle was part of a club that used to build whole village type setups. It is apples and oranges tho. One requires a degree of skill that only adults could do and the other is playing with bairns toys. As long as people are having fun tho.

Ouch!

They do yes.
In fact the "Ideas" things are submitted by fans and if they get over 10,000 people supporting them, LEGO consider making them happen.
There have been loads recently. Some absolutely brilliant makes too.

I really wanted this to happen.

Bricktastic at The GMEX in Manchester the other year was amazing. Some of the builds people had made were amazing

I like it but it's nee LEGO millennium falcon tbh.

It's a giant disc on 4 elephants on a turtle. What's not to like?!

A niche build though I'll accept that
I was also thinking of people making non-Lego stuff really. I just think it looks so much more impressive although I get that Lego sets it up for you.

The Discworld above is a fan build.

Honestly, the LEGO Ideas bit has been a masterstroke by LEGO.
Take a look

I see what you're saying, but to be fair some of these Lego models, there's a lot on ingenuity that goes into creating something from what's really quite a limited set of bricks.

That can go for this comment as well.

Yeah, there's great ingenuity from Lego but the end user is just putting something together using very basic step by step instructions. There's nothing clever or skillful about making the Lego model.

Aye that's fair enough. But I mean from the design aspect. And as per that link a few posts up, people do come up with original designs and submit them. Some of them wind up going on sale. Like this one...
