50 million rising to 60 million if they win the champions league and slavely has had our pants down but what can ya do?
£100 million. £20million of which relies on us qualifying for the Champions League, £40million for winning the World Cup, and the remaining £40 million if we win the Grand National.

They're the richest club in the world.

(I'd take that for Grigg mind)

Reads like a George Caulkin article. In his last one he just let “anonymous club sources”, which must include Staveley, spout utter shite unchallenged. The mags have clearly lapped it all up.

The Athletic has spoken to a host of people inside the club, from the very top to the dressing room and everywhere else. Taking the reins mid-season has not been easy, particularly after such a long spell of neglect and with the team already flailing, but the bigger-picture mood is resolutely positive.

“I’m infinitely more optimistic than I’ve ever been,” one very senior figure says, in a conversation that admittedly took place on Friday afternoon. “I’m so excited.”

“We’ve been firefighting,” one person at the top of the club says. “We’re working 24/7. We eat and sleep Newcastle. It’s all we’re doing.”

“By the time we finally took over, it happened much quicker than expected. Considering the speed, I think it’s gone pretty well.” Much of their work has “been unseen”, the first person says.

“I cannot believe the support this club has,” one of the senior figures says. “I mean, I knew about it. But, wow. Sleeping giant? It might actually be a sleeping monster. I can’t wait to deliver for them.”

“When the CEO comes in, everything accelerates,” one source says. “That’ll make a massive difference — they’ll set the tone for everything. That’s when the whole place goes up.”

“They have to be the right people,” a senior figure said. “The club means so much to fans. We have to make sure it’s people who understand that and get it.”

“There’s much better communication with players,” one dressing-room source says. “There are messages after games, either via the manager or the captain. We get a ‘well done’ or a ‘keep going, we’re in this together’. That means something.”

There will be a “complete refurbishment” of Newcastle’s training ground this summer. To date, improvements have been limited to a few morale-boosting measures put in place when players have been travelling. Ice baths have been significantly upgraded; the food is better; television screens, which used to be stuck on Sky Sports News, now display a countdown to matches and an itinerary for the day’s sessions.

There was diligence in their search for Bruce’s successor, undermined by a botched approach to Unai Emery, their first-choice candidate. That was “a hiccup”, one of the leading figures admits, but they claim to have learned from it.

“They’re learning on the job but they’re doing it at a rate of knots,” one source says. “And whatever else you say about Amanda, she’s an ace negotiator.”

Things that don’t appear to have been asked by Caulkin: Are PIF buying Inter? What will that mean for you? What happened to the chief executive who disappeared after a week in December (anyone heard from him since then btw)? Where are all these new players? How did you fuck up getting Emery? Why is Mike Ashley taking legal action against you? Wtf have you been doing in October, November, and December?

I swear he used to be a proper journalist at one point, although he was always an irritating mag.
'Sleeping Monster' is a bit of a Freudian slip 😆

Aye if the fans honestly think the owners who haven't got a plan of any sort, have not sorted anything by pre planning their 1st most important transfer window, and have just taken it lightly up until Jan 21st, but are now fully committed to working hard think that#s right they are crackers.

It means they are going down a list and they are running out of darts to through. The clubs like Sevilla are gonna send mixed messages to drag it out and out to worm every drop from the bastards . Every day nearer Jan 31st the players gain about 1.5 million extra every day. Panic stations will hit in and i would piss myself if it actually get's to deadline day where 70 million bids for Robert Huth come flying in

This blind faith from all of these journalists is so transparent.....obviously promised access in return for a positive spin.

Aye. It’s amazing how so many local “journalists” are determined to spin something positive, about something that’s so clearly and entirely negative.

And that back street journo pretending he knows how PiF operate. Embarassing.

What a mess of a journalist he's become. He's no more than a mouthpiece for a group representing a disgusting nation state.

The thing that grates with him is is how much he played on being george the anti fascist; a man of many principles. He made he's feelings clear when di canio took over.

Yet when it's his beloved mags those principles have gone flying out the window. These fuckers torture minorities in Saudi. Yet he's actively promoting them in a positive light Hope the prick never sets foot in the sol again.

Sky Sports: Newcastle will do whatever it takes to get Lingard

Christ. I hope MBS isnt involved. ⚔️
I’m surprised West Ham aren’t in for him. Seemed to enjoy himself down there and clearly improved the team.

Unless Moyes doesn’t want to disrupt his squad.

He’s a fanzine writer. Used to write for The Times. Now he’s a fanzine writer.
