...Howe says he wasn't in the dressing room when the owners went in and says "I believe" they were supportive...
Eh?

"Hello Eddie. We know the players must be disappointed so we've come to have a word and reassure them."
"Oh, er, nice one. Er, that'll be good. Er... haway then."
"Not you, Eddie. Why don't you stay out here? Keep an eye out for dissident journalists, there's a good lad."
"Oh yeah, we don't want them getting in. HAHAHAHA!"

Seriously, and I don't know the answer. Is that team really all that different from the one that kept them up last season?

They got Willock permeantly (who they were begging for) but other than that... what's changed?
Joelinton is suddenly a football genius and St. Max is the player everyone outside of Newcastle/the media said he was.

I'm prepared to be corrected, but Bruce kept that squad up

Bruce was a good fit for them - an obese Geordie with remarkably thin skin, who's spent decades managing in the Premier League without pulling up any trees, and he's had the odd cup run. That's all the mags could really ask for, and all NUFC could expect to be, and Bruce did well enough and delivered a couple of years that were on a par with the mighty Rafa.

He got the best out of their best players - he had Wilson as a 1 goal in 2 games striker, which he never has been before and hasn't been in the last few months. And he got Saint Maximin playing really well. Tactically he isn't the best - but the rest of the squad is shite, so he didn't ask too much of them. He'd let the opposition win the possession stats and got everyone else pulling together behind their 2 best players.

Obviously that is never going to be enough for supporters like the mags. But they had an owner who understood them as well. I remember after Brighton beat them last season they had one of their meltdowns and demanded Bruce was sacked. Chronicle poll showed 97% thought they were going down if Ashley didn't pull the trigger. But by that point Ashley had been around long enough to know to ignore them, and they stayed up easily by 17 points.

When Ashley first took over he hadn't found out about them. He was enjoying all the goodwill, like the headchoppers are now, and he went and sacked Allardyce and gave them Keegan to appease them. A huge error - and they imploded shortly after. Ashley has said he regretted doing that to Sam. He should never have listened to the idiotic supporters and he didn't make that mistake again. Even when they launched a campaign against Pardew, their best manager of the last 20 years, he stood firm. When Pardew did walk out on them for a better offer, they plummeted to the bottom of the league and nearly got relegated, then actually did get relegated the following year, and have never been as good since. That's what can happen when you indulge the mags delusions.

Their new owners haven't realised any of this. They've appeased the fans by going ahead and sacking Bruce straightaway, but for whatever reason, weren't able to get anyone decent in, and have ended up appointing Howe who is a mate of one of the directors. They haven't appointed a director of football, and have only made one signing - someone who used to play for the new manager. They don't understand the mags the way we do - if they did they'd realise the first meltdown is potentially only 7 days away. Fail to sign any players this week and then lose to Watford and the mags supporters will implode. It will be interesting to see how the new owners react. From what I understand they don't really get much dissent in their home country, and when they do they don't respond very well. They were always going to find out what the mags are like eventually though.

As expected from a non mags point of view.

Humour me, I’m old and I don’t do twitter cept for what gets linked on here.
WTAF is going on there? Who is who?
Looks like James has called out that account for the Khagoshi tweet.

Then some camp looking Saudi lad has looked into all of his twitter history and bringing up anything bad he has said.

Their players will have been thinking “what the fcuk do you lot know about English professional football you money obsessed creepy bastards”….
Aye, most of us have had visits from corporate at some point. Usually goes something like that. I wonder if it occurred to any of those present that the person addressing them is very very close to a bloke who regularly orders someone’s head to be parted from their body? I’ve met some corporate knob jockeys in me time but that is a whole other level.
Have this SD hoardings been taken down when he paid for the full season I wonder?
If that was the case wouldn’t he be going after the club and not Slavery in person?

Fun listening to max rushen the big cambridge fan and MLF barry whilst driving just there.

Even had the Cambridge right back Williams on and when asked about Minimus he said jokingly he doesn't know what all the fuss is about. He should have added I'm letting him out of my back pocket later"

P.S Bridges the mag fan had text Max

I live in the nice part. It's like all places and has its shitholes. Only 10 minutes from the countryside and only 1 minute from a sheep. All the family live in Washington which in some parts is pretty bad. I'm from the Village
Well that left a job for someone else

No offence meant I just couldn't resist

I agree with every word of that, except I think Saudi money and the promise of a "project" will appease then even if they lose to Watford.

If they haven't spent a fortune at the close of the transfer window, that will be the implosion.

January is now or never for the new owners. If they don't go for bust now they never will... if the window closes and Trippier (and maybe some championship players) is their only new names through the door... the bubble will burst. That will be the realisation that maybe the ambition of the owners doesn't match their expections (even though Mandy herself told them that there wasn't huge resources and Eddie said he was "going to work with what he had already".

A loss or draw to Watford won't be the straw that broke the camels back as long as they thing big signings are on the way

Indeed, which is why my thinking is it's to do with the loan which is to staveleys company, not the club.
