Unfortunately Trippier was excellent in La Liga and this could be an excellent signing for them. Hopefully it isn't backed up by anyone else of note coming in...
Thought he was excellent a few seasons ago. My question would be if he was so good now and available, how come he's gone to Newcastle. Surely there'd be a host of clubs queuing up to bring him back to England.

It's a good point aye. I did read that Man United were interested a season or so ago but Athetico wouldn't entertain it, which soured their relationship with Trippier a bit. Fingers crossed he's a bit past it now. It won't mean much unless it's backed up by someone up-front for them.

130k a week for a 31yr old ,maybe 1 good season then 2 average seasons out of him tops.
his craic man " the lure of working with Eddie Howe "
It translates to
" The lure of getting 130k a week off them daft twats when i'm 34 and past it was too much to turn down "
Kept on talking about the ‘project’ that’s their new buzz word. Even if the ‘project’ did exist he would be about 40 by the time they were anywhere near it.

1 reason ...Age ...A few seasons ago you would get 5 yrs out of him ,now 1 maybe 2 at a push ,bad value for money, high wages for his age, with zero resale, hope this is the mags model of signings .

Fortuituous circumstances - wants to be in the North......money is tight at most clubs and spending 12m, with no resale on a 31 year old full back, is way down most teams priorities. It is a decent window to have money to spend. Take covid away and they would really be struggling unless the offered incredible wages.

He's better than run of the mill tbf
True, he’s an England international who was outstanding for Burnley and in Europe for Spurs.

But by 2017 he was slowing down. He had to be rotated with Aurier and still picked up niggles. He didn’t play every game for Atletico and now the bloke’s 31 which is some going for a ball playing right back.

He’s good, and will help them stop up along any other signings. As a long term Premier League player grinding out results in an unfashionable team, not so much.
