You are spot on. It is just fortuitous for them that Trippier wanted to return to England and none of the top sides have a right back as priority. I know he has two young kids...sure I read also that his missus is pregnant.

Details yet to be released but presume it is 150k p/w and not sure of terms of optional year so it is either 19.5m or 27.3m. I'd also love to think relegation clause is in his favour so he can walk for say 6m.
 
Fair play to him I was expecting him to say ‘I’ve always wanted to play for the mighty toon’ but he signed for the first club that bid for him.

"I spoke to Atletico about January if anything became available in January, and Newcastle became available.

"I have personal reasons with my family and it was most important that they were happy and settled with the decision.

He’s a good player and improves them, no doubt about it. But feels like they have improved a position that would have been well down the list of what needs replacing ( for me anyway). Also now a quarter of the way through the window and no further forward on stuff they really need. Had months to get a move on really and they just don’t seem to have got stuff lined up apart from this and that still took a week.

I still can’t work out if they are gonna toss big money at it or not. Let’s be honest the price they have paid is pretty run of the mill for the premier league. Kind of feels like it was the biggest name they could get so they did.
