How can anyone ignore this stuff in exchange for the possibility of sporting success?
Words fail me. 😢
Because UK policy is to sell billions of pounds worth of arms to Saudi which has killed or displaced hundreds of thousands of Yemenis. And people across the North East have ignored the fact the manufacturer of the weapons is based near Sunderland, and potentially people on this forum have played a role in making them.

You can call it whataboutery but it is not that simple.

Yes the Mags who celebrate Saudi Arabia, and support or defend the Saudi government are a disgrace and deserve every criticism they get and need to be called out.

But some are not celebrating or defending the regime, and just turn a blind eye like most do in Britain there. That’s just the way Britain’s economy works.

I can't really agree with this.

There are plenty of things about this country that we can be very proud of, there are other things that are an embarrassment. The relationship with Saudi Arabia is one of the most embarrassing, in my eyes.

Can't argue that people in the north east are involved in the arms industry. In my view, that's a real shame, but these are people who have to earn a living. I'm sure many of them would rather do something else. There will be many others involved in other industries that could be considered unethical - in the end we all have to make some form of compromise with capitalism in order to survive - its how the world is.

Having said that, we've still got a reasonable amount of freedom to decide what we do on our days off. If you choose to spend that time propagandising for Saudi Arabia, petitioning Parliament for them to take over your club, and launching the biggest campaign for a takeover anyone's ever seen, then you're going to get a lot of stick and you're going to deserve it in my view.

The dishonesty in pretending to be 'concerned' once the massive campaign was completely successful, and the the pathetic lies about helping them to change (which didn't just come from idiots like Wraith) are deserving of criticism on their own.

They are active and willing participants in a propaganda machine for Saudi Arabia. Nearly all of them begged for it, and they've now got it. They should get the stick that goes with it as well - they fully deserve it.

Have you seen the players he is having to work with FFS. Do you honestly think Pep could get a game out of Lascelles, Fernandez, Clark and Schar? We don't even have wingbacks at the club just shite midfielders being forced to play there.

I think it's quite frankly baffling you expect anyone to do any better with zero windows to build.
I'm pretty sure Pep could get them to hold a defensive line as a unit. So could Hodgson, Nuno or even Allardyce. We're talking about experienced PL players here.

What would worry me most is the way Howe speaks after games. When he's got time to think, he clearly says all the right things for NUFC supporters, but post-match, he sounds more like McClaren than anything else. After getting beat 4-0 at home, his patter was basically "the boys did their best, it was the ref's fault, we're making progress". I don't care what any says, no-one in a relegation battle wants to hear their manager taking that line. If he's going down the "let's create a bunker mentality" route, that doesn't work. Been there, done that.

Howe's missed his chance to set basic standards. You don't have to sell the players out, but saying "we tried our best" after a 4-0 drubbing at home is a bit f***ing embarrassing when you've gifted the opposition three goals. You could still stay up, but you're going to need a couple of leaders on the pitch who will demand more from the rest of the team, because your manager isn't going to.

They've got Man United next, then its Everton, Southampton, Watford, and then Leeds on 22nd January.

So the four teams in 14th - 17th in the league at the moment.

If the new players arrive after those games and not before, then I reckon it will probably be too late for them anyway.
Had seen Soton in Jan but not the other 2 so as You say hopefully any arrivals are late--certainly loan players likely to be!

Just to add to their " the world is against us" be great if they got covid cases (but not enough for postponing) and their rivals faced similar weakened sides

The mags are pinning their hopes on signing 5 or 6 quality players in January.

God help the owners if they don't get a few signings "over the line". If they go down without spending big, the fanbase will start to turn.

A few will start to get vocal, questioning what's happening, and then all eyes will be on the summer. Even in the championship they'll be expecting big money spends. If they don't come then the bedsheets will be out.

Remember at no point has anyone from the club promised big money spending. Its all assumed. If anything Amanda Staveley has played down the idea.

I really can see this all imploding quite quickly if they go down.
But if they stay up.... well that's when I think money will start to flow

The irony is....they needed someone to make them more difficult to beat and they've chosen a manager that plays practically 5 a side football.

Conceded 17 in 7 games since Howe took over. I accept their fixtures have been tough but I don't buy this 'We're a lost cause' crap.

Btw can't wait to see their response when the Saudi's plaster airline advertisements or gulf baking companies all over SJP. Something tells me there won't be the same level of outrage...yet shame on the disgusting immoral Mike Ashley.

Completely agree the pro-Saudi petitions and propaganda is awful and the criticism is fully deserved.

I am not sure I agree about wanting the investment though. Other parts of the country get lots of investment from Saudi Arabia and other murderous states so I can appreciate how some up there may want the same, otherwise your region misses out even more and is left further behind.

As long as Saudi Arabian money is encouraged in this country by government, then I cannot blame every city wanting a piece of the pie.

I can.

Personally I dont hold government in such high esteem.

Welcoming those that educate and fund scum to crash planes into western buildings is unforgivable. Khashoggi death is more recent but doesn't come close to what my eyes witnessed on 9/11.

To me I would not rest until every terrorist scum was wiped out or at least detained , and you lot have some easy to find ones sitting in your stadium being applauded.

Buying a football club was not a requirement for investment. I am
not sure what other investment you refer to? Obviously they own lots of property in London, their is the SANIC site in Teesside and numerous BAE sites up and down the land.
