Not necessarily better. Sometimes, In adversity, the atmosphere is better as it is the hard core fans who attend. I have a mate who has been a City ST holder since the 80’s. He misses Maine Road and the old days for everything other than the team!!Imagine what it would be like if we were good.
I'm from and live in Edinburgh mate, first English game I went to was that 1-0 win, bought tickets with my mates, drove down and just like that, sold. Blew me away and been regular ever since.
I remember seeing Roker Park on the TV, I've since learned all about the famous Roker roar and once I found the club, it just made me wish I was 10 years older and been able to have a few pre-match pints and then a home game at the old ground.
Been to few when it’s been decent but it can’t match the SOL in full voiceSt James’ has always been shite.
Never been impressed.
I sort of agree. When you watch the top clubs play poor opposition the atmosphere is flat as fuck as they just sit there expecting a convincing win. For example your match last night the atmosphere was shocking as Liverpool fans didn't feel the need to get behind their team as they knew that they would almost certainly winNot necessarily better. At many premiership games the majority of the atmosphere comes from away fans. Proximity to home fans is what gets the home fans going.Reidy times were good as were Keane times. Then not so good.
Happens to be a reason for that but how many clubs would create better atmosphere if in L1 for the years we've been now, and that's after watching premiership and championship dross for the years previous.
That isn't a dig at our home atmosphere. It's better than most.At many premiership games the majority of the atmosphere comes from away fans. Proximity to home fans is what gets the home fans going.
It is what made Roker Park such a magical place when I was a kid. Stan Anderson played a through ball to Crossan, or King Charlie rumbled upfield for a corner and it would start to swell and build into a crescendo. It gives me goosebumps even now! Opponents were convinced we played crowd noise through the PA, but it was pure organic Mackem Madness. Was good on Saturday, partially down to the ref because fans could sense players were having to dig in a lot more . Also when 2 1 up less leave early and it helps. At times it isnt so good and I'm in South.
Think the roar when attacking is sometimes more beneficial to players than a song.
They never have.Been to few when it’s been decent but it can’t match the SOL in full voice
I am 75 and still follow the dreamI’m 47 and have given up imagining.
the fact that he was surprised shows you how up their own arse they are. We Are the Noth East.I was at a family event yesterday and was chatting to a Mag family member (unfortunately we are split 50/50) who I had bumped into at a Sunderland Game and was asking him why he was there etc. Turns out his mate is a mackem.
He went on to say he was actually surprised at how good the atmosphere was and that it was actually better than SJP has been for a good few years and even when at the Burnley game it was good for the first 5 and then rubbish for the rest.
Made me think, sometimes we shouldn't be too hard on our atmosphere, some have it alot better than us and still can't get as loud as us. We take it for granted sometimes I'm sure, the SOL is not going to be like Napoli in league 1.
Haway the fans
He wasn’t surprised at all, gravy slurping camel botherers have been attending our matches for years, they absolutely love it.the fact that he was surprised shows you how up their own arse they are. We Are the Noth East.
I remember that one. There was fully grown blokes saying things that would make Roy 'chubby' Brown blush4-0 at half time against Chelsea was good.
Aye. Voices project better. Which is why 99% of singers stand. Can you make more noise when standing than when sat in a seat? Any studies been done?
What a day that was4-0 at half time against Chelsea was good.
