How can you blame Johnson for the inept defending from Gooch. It was appalling and nobody would expect that level of defending from a professional footballer.
I know you will not understand this, but not everything is Johnson’s fault
Not everything is Johnsons fault - hard to disagree with that but does he do enough for us as a manager? Is he a positive difference versus other league 1 managers or not, does he make most calls correctly or not? In the time he has been at Sunderland does he look like a good fit for us?
My opinion is he is well below the standard we require, and is costing us point us points. Others will disagree fair enough.

Didn’t we sack a player for flicking the Vs? The lad phoning in deserves stick, but our manager shouldn’t be so unprofessional. LJ is as big a tart as the lad, tbh. I’m sure managers hear a lot worse than ‘walk away’ and don’t flick Vs at the fans. He’s going to have to grow a much thicker skin.

I think you have to acknowledge that we are still getting almost record breaking attendances and we are in our 4th season in League One. We are again scratching about 5th and 6th and you can see how this season will play out. A lot of fans, like myself, have been going for decades and so we can see patterns and we can see manager's who just don't have it. The perspective is that we as a club and a team are badly under-performing - I'm not sure what you are calling for. Should the fans not aspire to immediate promotion. Considering we have a manager who's teams appear toi have choked for the past 4 seasons I am pleasantly surprised that the fans have been supportive pretty consistently. This team and this manager do not look or feel like a promotion side - I've been through many promotions with this club from Stokoe, Knighton, Reid, McCarthy, Keane and I just don't see Lee Johnson as a man who will lead us up. I hope I'm wrong and have not once called for his head but I objectively have very little faith in him. When objectively looking at his record as a manager I am not sure how anyone can have much faith in him.
As a club we’re badly underperforming. As a team though? Are we clearly one of the top two squads in the league? You’d struggle to make that case in truth. We’re one of 5 or 6 who should be in the mix and, lo and behold, that’s exactly where we are. Should we aspire to automatic? Yeah - but that’s where things start to get dicey for me. The fanbase - particularly online but also in the stands at times - are often found saying ‘a club like Sunderland should be battering this tinpot league’. Maybe that’s true. However what we should aspire to as a club is something different to what our current team is capable of. That brings us to yesterday. One of the better squads in the league played another of the better ones. We went in with a severe injury crisis and relatively poor form. We played fairly well and clearly deserved to win the game. Nothing to be too happy about - but most certainly not a game that warrants running down the stands to abuse the manager. That’s where the atmosphere amongst the fans comes in. Anything other than a win every single week is unacceptable for some. Form, injuries, actual talent level of the squad, none of it comes into it. As I say I understand where it comes from, but that doesn’t lessen the lack of objectivity.

A couple of points. We have performed better during this 'injury crisis' than before.

Secondly, it is an objective analysis to say that Johnson's teams have effectively 'choked' towards the end of the last 4 seasons. When I mention this some will say 'im not bothered about what he has done in the past'. For me it can be entirely objective to have serious doubts about Johnson's ability to get us up. I get that there are lots of factors in whether you get up but the ability of the manager/head coach is at the top of the list. To suggest Johnson may be a problem for us if we aspire to promotion is not an outlandish suggestion.

Not outlandish, no. But again I’m not saying that people questioning Johnson are unreasonable. Plenty of good posters on here do. But this is a thread about some dingus running down the stand after a performance that was both improved over recently and one that warranted a win - all against the backdrop of probably the worst injury crisis we’ve had since being down here. That’s where I get concerned.

Still it's massively debatable whether he did or not.

Oh well in that case I totally agree. The lad gave him some abuse at a point when we've had better form and lo and behold LJ reacted. I've no problem with Johnson's reaction and the fan came across a bit pathetic.

I just think it's strange that fanny in the crowd would choose yesterday to make an arse of himself like that and then have a radio meltdown about it?
