Saudi Arabia has always been a dictatorship but traditionally run as a collective family affair.

Since MBS became Crown Prince it has been moving slowly towards a one man tyranny with even royals that stand in his way been pushed aside, even though his dad is still nominally King.

When King Salman (85) finally dies it will be interesting to see how far MBS goes to punish any high level rivals to his power and if he will even try to be subtle about it. Business as usual or Saddam type bloodbath ?

He's already imprisoned close relatives until they handed over enough of their money to weaken their position.

Did anyone else hear Christian Purslow’s interview on R4 Today this morning? He is Chief Exec of Aston Villa and was talking about the Fan Led Review and need for a regulator.

When he was asked if a regulator would have blocked the Saudi takeover he categorically said no. His view was that because UK government policy is that Saudi Arabia is an ally or partner there would be no grounds for a regulator to block it.
No grounds.

Ally.....yeah without needing to sell oil and buy bombs the Saudis think of the west like i do of the 4 week auld skid mark on me hoggers

Though I am getting a little emotionally attached to it

Again the paying tax argument falls flat because the British taxpayer didn't actively encourage the sale of arms to the Saudi's. Newcastle fans sent a petition which was double the stadium capacity to demand this takeover to go through.. then dancing around with the headwear looking like something from a Spike Milligan sketch...

  :) I’m trying to process this. The tax I pay goes towards weapons companies selling arms to the KSA? I thought the Saudis as buyers would have to pay for them. Unless there’s some kind of Black Friday deal on bombs n bullets and we’re subsidising it. Then he says our government are buying weapons and selling them to the KSA. If theres any sense in there I can’t find it.
And they wonder why the rest of the country either despises them or takes the piss out of their ignorance and stupidity,
or both.

Let me helpfully point out your mistake mate - you're rather stupidly looking for a coherent argument in the idiots response.

If you just assume he's stupid and stop trying to find logic where there isn't any it'll all make sense.

Maybe when they set up, they didn’t think they’d actually have to stand up and fight for what they believed in.
They had a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a massive statement for equality and inclusivity but they didn’t have the guts.
Money trumps morals again if you’re a mag.
This is how sports washing works
watched the Qatar F1 last weekend . David Beckham was there in his new Qatar sports washing role - paid a reported £150 million over 10 years .
he is too dumb to think on his feet and answer any questions on human rights - so the media was told not to approach him and ask any questions .
sadly the media complied - knowing full well if they had asked Any questions as to why Beckham was representing a regime which denies basic human rights to women and gay people - they would never again obtain media accreditation .
At Newcastle the Saudis will have noted who could cause them the most repuatational damage , and done everything possible to silence them .
The Newcastle LGTBQ group was set up to promote equality and inclusion - somehow they have been silenced and stopped from asking the most basic of questions - as to why Saudia Arabia continue to torture and imprison people for being gay .
You can write a long list of former Newcastle manager's and players - pundits , journalists and activists who are failing to speak out .

In their "new" song, I was thinking Monty Python's Life of Brian :)

All sports media stations and their arsehole ex pro presenters have failed. They will keep quiet as more money, be it blood money will come into their beautiful game.

More will buy sky packages ( not me) so better wages for these soul selling presenters and co presenters whilst they waffle on explaining how team A have defended in banks of 4 by moving discs about.

Whilst clubs increase ticket prices for the common plebs.

The game has been shafted but in truth not just recently.

You can copyright a year!!!!???? I'll have 1879, 1973 and 2026 ;)
Know posted with emoji anyway - intel had 386, 486 microchips but because you cant copyright numbers they released the pentium. Imagine "United 1892" could be copyright but not the number itself otherwise every bus company / calendar maker in the country would be a knackered and doubt man utd would be happy if united was copyrighted.
