Could we attract Neil Critchley from Blackpool?

No. We are just an average league 1 club nowadays. Complete myth we are big club especially these days
Stadium-Premier League standard
Academy-ditto above in terms of facility
Owner-extremely rich, rich enough for the Premier League
Support-no doubt Premier League
Manager-League 1 plodder
Players-certainly some could play at a league above where we are

There are still positives to attract someone good

our owner would nowadays be a pauper in the premier league. maybe richer than whoever owns norwhich watford and one or two others, but hardly in the top dozen wealthiest owners...

KLD’s Mother 5.6b
Spurs 4.9b
Man Utd 4.7b
Southampton 4b
Leeds 4b
Leicester 3.7b
Everton 2.9b
Liverpool 2.8b
KLD 2b
Brighton 1.3b

Just a brief outline - money is close enough yet feels so far away.

KLDS mother is not relevant! she is not the owner and has shown no inclination to become an owner..also what currency is KLDs 2bn in?

I literally wrote the words ‘a brief outline’ because I knew otherwise you would come with some argumentative, undermining comment - but I was wrong, you did that anyway.

Nowhere did I indicate that she would want to become owner. Simply stating that our owner has a mother who is richer than half the premier league clubs, it’s just a comment, an observation.

When she pops her clogs and it’s KLD’s cash I’ll remind you. (Long may she live)

well a share of it would be KLDs..split with however many siblings/half siblings etc he has..

all the other owners have mothers as well...and they can spend the money now..and dont need to ask their mothers..
I would also point out that his mother is 60 years old and wealthy..her life expectancy could reasonably be 40 years..i dont think safc can wait for that!
BTW his mother borrowed a billion dollars in 2019 and hasnt repaid all of it yet...https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/louis-dreyfus-owner-rescheduled-450-mln-debt-due-by-end-2020-2021-01-06/

Absolutely and anyone who thinks otherwise clearly doesnt know anything about us

Leave a secure job near we he grew up to relocate, be a division below and at a club were they tell you they have a long term plan yet actually sack the coach after a bad run despite being in a cup quarter final and could be in automatic promotion spots if win games in hand, and the bad run has coincided with a bad run of injuries.

This is how a potential manager will view and why it will be very difficult to attract anyone that is a definite upgrade. Will be gamble whoever we appoint I suspect. And also why I suspect Johnson is going nowhere.... Yet.

I hate this “we have billionaire owners” narrative. A persons personal wealth doesn’t equal a clubs wealth.

You have to say that he has Blackpool punching above their weight and that is about as good as he can do. At Sunderland despite being in a Division lower we have greater potential and that should be attraction for any Manager like him.
Blackpool have a top 10 Championship budget, believe it or not, due to a strong 25 man squad. That with a good coach and young pacey players with good technique is catching the league out at the moment. Sad to say, but he won't leave that situation for us. Not to say he couldn't end up somewhere like us in the future, but Blackpool are moving in the right direction, the fan have their club back after staying away under the Oystons and its like a new toy for all concerned. They are unified right now in the way we appear to be just around the corner from fragmenting. Ainsworth turned us down to stay at Wycombe. Do we even have a budget for the next window or are we still looking to scout leagues below us for an up coming surprise package / gamble.

Anyone in a division above, or who hadn't worked in L1 before will want assurances that support will be significant.

The club should be able to attract most managers if an acceptable offer is on the table. Pointless saying so and so won't come here if the club doesn't show the ambition to go after them.

I think the appeal of the job is the potential, but you have to believe it's being supported by those signing the cheques. I'm looking at it like I was going to take the job tomorrow. I'd want some healthy change to the current squad, and I'd imagine a lot of managers that want to play in line with the modern style would too. It's one of the biggest issues with new managers - why should you be judged with players you might not rate?

One look at this squad would put any decent manager/head coach off.

By all means get shot of LJ but these players haven't got the fight or ambition to get promoted at the first sign of a team going toe to toe with them too many of our players go straight into their shell.

Regardless of who is in the dugout this squad is not capable of promotion
Rubbish.

I kind of agree, but ^ that won't happen until January, if indeed it does happen. A change of current manager needed doing weeks ago to give someone new a fighting chance. I can't see Johnson going (hope I'm wrong) so if the thoughts are to stick with Johnson and give him a January transfer window and he still fails, what then, a new manager in the summer?
