Wasn’t one of their idiotic mantras post Keegan that they’d rather draw 3-3. The entertainers are back, except this time they don’t realise it,
Interesting that both Gerrard and Smith both recognised that their new teams needed to tighten up in order to climb the table…..they concede 1 goal between them and pick up 6 points…..Eddie thinks attack will be the best policy….they score three but only gain 1 point.

Looking at that game today bith the Mags and Brentford will go down cos defensively they are both very poor

BBC Sport Headline

"Howe made the final call to help Newcastle drew with Brentford"

Hailing there new Messiah

The BBC might have no time for our royal family but they appear all in with the Saudi version

 I mean, a decent manager would have had them winning against brentford. Crazy how they're buying into the narrative that he wasn't a desperation choice after everyone good turned them down. Ashley could have appointed him ffs

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying I can understand why their fans are saying it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things in their specific circumstances. Because if they're going to spend to the level people expect, one relegation is merely a slight delay, it isn't going to stop determined people with 300bn or whatever making a football club successful. If we were bought by them and at risk of a relegation you'd be saying exactly the same. Do you honestly think if they go down it's all fucked? It's only fucked if they're shit at running a club or if they aren't wanting to spend big money, in which case it's fucked anyway. If they can appoint the right people, with that much money, if they have the ambition to challenge man City, a relegation won't derail the whole thing. They'd be straight back and still compete in a few years. Mental to think otherwise tbh, it's wishful thinking
Problem with relegation is that it would mean this season is written off from a sportswashing point of view. Even if they bounce back at the 1st attempt the following season is written off as they’d only be competing in the 2nd tier. 1st season back in the Premier, they would struggle to attract top quality until they could prove they could compete in the top half, so that could be another couple of seasons written off.

Would the Saudi’s be happy to hang around for at least another 4-5 seasons before they could attract top quality for their sportswashing or would they just move on and buy the likes of Inter Milan?

I'm not sure they can get a sensible playing style which incorporates ASM.
He's a loose cannon as likely to score a brilliant goal as he is to give the ball away in a dangerous area.
he's class and dreadful at the same time imo. Also not sure how sensible the back flips are. Imagine him coming down and twisting his ankle!

Fair points, but I assume they knew relegation was possible when they bought them. It would be spun as an issue purely down to the last regime and this would be the big comeback. Money trumps everything in football nowadays sadly, if they're going to spend like the mags hope they will then the success will come. If they went down and failed to get back up, then the Saudis might get pissed off, they'd be a worldwide laughing stock, but as Ashley proved the championship isn't really as hard as a lot seem to think. I thought it was a shit standard even when we got relegated, we'd have stayed up if we had a goalkeeper with working hands. If we'd had McLaughlin we'd have stayed up

Problem is that the new regime will have had about 3 quarters of a season, and a transfer window (with an assumption of lots of money to spend).

The excuse that it's Bruce/Ashley's fault will look pretty pathetic if they don't stay up.

To everyone outside of Newcastle anyway

Aye it will do. The mags will be fine with it, they didn't blame rafa at all! But looking at how much the majority of the media are falling over themselves to build them up I imagine they'll go along with it as well.

And Howe wants to build a team around one of their biggest liabilities.
something similar happened in the NFL. He was offering his personal chef $500 to get the cards for him (and I think his wife). I had a lad in the barber shop claiming he could get similar.

They’ll be saying that you can’t blame Eddie the 8th for the relegation, he only had 27 games to try and keep them up.

I can't wait to see what will happen when they don't bring in the superstars they think are coming, still bottom of the league at the start of February and an 8th choice manager, the gravy stained loons will riot, telephone boxes will be smashed, Camels will be punched, the bedsheets will be out, marches on Downing Street disorganised and when in April they are relegated, I can see them spitting on Staveley and her man what's his name?
they have done all of this before, it could get so bad the P.I.F might throw in the towel.

To be fair, how much did Rafa spend to get them up? £50m? If you are organised with transfers and have a good coach and/or keep most of your squad you tend to be ok. To the second point, yes they'd be happy to hang around.

This isn't a short play for them, much in the same way it wasn't for City. Now, the talk of going for trophies and all that total bollocks might be, but you can run a Premier League for a fairly modest investment relative to what they have. In return, they get a massive billboard in a huge league to launder their image and further push the notion that 'Saudi Arabia isn't all that bad. You can buy a beer and watch Anthony Joshua fight.'

One thing I never see said about Man City is people talking about what they've built. I don't mean in a poetic, marvel at the majesty way, I mean they've got bricks and mortar, buildings, clubs across the globe. These are all hard assets in major markets that will increase in value. It would not shock me at all if Saudi looked at the Premier League and wanted to do similar. This is where the cash is - they just agreed a new $2billion deal for 6-years of telly rights for America. There is no promise they do it, and I don't believe MBS is a football fan like the guy in charge of Man City, but the reasons for why they did this were clear.

Why Newcastle? I assume Mandy sold the dream. Could easily (and probably should have been) Palace/Fulham or someone closer to London.
