Racism at Yorkshire CCC

I think his Facebook comments about Jews has a massive impact on the issue.

He's in the news and it's news. The local newspaper who have stood by him, reported the texting story.

It's more than relevant and if it was Alex Hales, people would be absolutely hammering him. It seems Rafiq has a free ride with some on here
The local newspaper have done fuck all. And have been widely criticised for being too close to Yorkshire

He has been widely criticised for his comments, and rightly so

It doesn’t for fucks sake…the systematic and decade long racist behaviour isn’t wiped away by anything he says or does.
It happened, been accepted and apologised for.
Might make him less sympathetic but racist behaviour isn’t lessened by him being a shit.

Not seen anyone giving him a free ride, literally everyone has said he’s massively out of order.

Do you think David Lloyd is a racist?
I don’t know. He’s made some clearly racist comments on social media many years ago and in 2012? He seems contrite regarding the recent going’s on regarding Rafiq. He states that he wants to do everything he can to push equality in the game. It would take people closer to David Lloyd than me to know if he is a racist or not.

Ok, so the same as Rafiq, yet you seem to be arguing that Rafiq isn’t a racist despite him using clear race hate language. Do you not see that as a double standard?

I think you had prepared that answer without reading my reply
1) I said Rafiq or anyone shouldn’t be branded a racist for life due to a message or 2 sent a decade ago.
2) I said the same applies for David Lloyd regarding his historic tweets.
Obviously Lloyd had apologised to Rafiq for more recent comments so I don’t really know whether he or Rafiq are racists now and either do you.

so no I don’t see any double standards at all.

Does a comment made 10 years ago as a teenager mean he has anti Semitic views now. The Jewish Leadershiip Council who have been incredibly supportive of Rafiq certainly don’t think so. I think their views on this are a bit more important than a jumped up little Englander.
Does alex hales painting his face 11 year ago make.him a racist?

Jumped up little englander 🤣🤣🤣. Quite racist isnt it

Couple of things

1) Vaughans was directed at people, Rafiqs was not (note: that doesn’t make it ok)
2) Vaughan was a senior player. Rafiq was a kid. (And you defended Ollie Robinson for the same)

We don't know if Vaughan did what he is alleged to have done, likewise Bresnan (I believe Bresnan as mentioned earlier in the thread)

Yes I defended Robinson, the way some went on including some on here, you would think he murdered someone. Likewise I will defend Hales.

The Vaughan story has been corroborated by 2 others

You defended Robinson for tweets sent at 18/19, he got a punishment that was proportionate (imo), but criticise Rafiq for tweets at the same age? What’s the difference?

No difference at all. He was daft like Rafiq, nothing more nothing less but Rafiq posting racist stuff about the Jews makes him far less credible. I have merely said the Rafiq texts are news and it should be brought to the attention, just like the Robinson stuff was. Some people I get the impression are trying to brush Rafiq's behaviour under the carpet whilst some went on absolutely ridiculous about Robinson..

Hales has got a rough ride from all of this and it's absolutely embarrassing.

No one at all has attempted to brush the Rafiq comments under the carpet. It was 3rd top story on the entire guardian for gods sake, top of sky sports.

Credibility is a funny word. What do you mean? You think he’s a liar or a hypocrite?

I read your reply and replied accordingly. What are you implying?

I agree neither of us do know if they are racist. For what it’s worth I don’t think they are, I think they are guilty of using stupid, offensive and ill-advised language, but I can see evidence of double standards being applied. We will have to agree to disagree on that point.

I think I’ll leave it there mate as I like you as a poster; I’m not looking for an argument but this is a complex subject and tensions are running quite high.

I could dismantle and systematically destroy this post but by bit but haven’t got the time and inclination and this thread is having an impact on my own mental health. It smacks of someone who has taken a quarter interest in the story - being unaware of the background to why Rafiq returned to Yorkshire for example. Yet another example of someone who had little interest in this when all they knew was a person of colour being systematically racially abused on a daily basis by white cricketers, administrators, managers and commentators etc. then had massive interest when person of colour is seen to have sent a couple of unjustifiable racists tweets 10 years ago when he was a teenager. I had decided to give this thread a wide birth but when you see racism and bigotry right in front of you it’s really difficult.

Les Ferdinand who is a vehement anti racist and had done some great work regarding racism definitely wouldn’t have seen the funny side.
Any thoughts on the new revelations of him allegedly messaging teenage girls or are we continuing the azeem can do no wrong narrative?

How the fuck does it not matter that rafiq has anti semitic views like 🤣🤣🤣

What sort of double standards bullshit is this?
I’ve worded it badly, of course it matters. Forget Rafiq, what is good is that racism and discrimination is being exposed and hopefully being sorted out no matter who the culprit is. The more people that come forward, the better.

Rafiq initially exposed the problem but he’s also part of the problem. Everyone needs to looks at themselves and ask whether they are behaving and have behaved correctly.
