Sadly his comment will detract from the sustained racism he encountered over a time. People make mistakes and no one will feel more stupid at the moment then he does. It’s a lot different to the systemic racism he and other cricketers have faced day in, day out. I find it really deflating because Rafiq seemed to be starting a really powerful movement to drive racism out of cricket and would be a key player in that.

Seems so. With Root however the argument is that it was a constant feature

again, no one defends him for it. And let’s not pretend that it anyway changes the unacceptable behaviour of others

Spot on
 
The most important thing Rafiq has achieved is opened the door to the huge issues English domestic cricket has with racism especially to Asians at all levels.
Now it's up to cricket to get it house in order in the short term and the long term.
For cricket this is far bigger than the people involved in the Rafiq story.

He’s apologised. He has accepted apologies from a fair few already ( in fact saying that’s the main thing he’s been after)

Its some effort involved to trawl back through 10 years of Facebook to find the comments he has made.

Not that it is acceptable what he said but it looks like they were on his private facebook page. Someones legal team has probably got someone to leak it (allegedly)
