Can't really agree here mind. I do think FFP is flawed and, as mentioned, effectively operates to keep the elite where they are, but I think the answer is to amend FFP rather than to scrap it. Football is meant to be a sport, having all the trophies pretty much determined by how rich and how much money your owner is prepared to spend isn't the way to go. I'd love to see a proper wage cap, across all divisions. Obviously higher for the PL, but the same for every club in it. All money split equally, including European money. Clubs keep gate receipts so clubs with more fans can invest in infrastructure. That way its actually about who can buy the right players, which managers can get the most from their squads etc. Currently it's pointless even competing, if you have a mint season you'll lose half your squad to the "big" clubs. The mags shouldn't be allowed to suddenly become a force just because a country decides to buy them, but equally man city shouldn't have been able to do the same. It'll never happen of courseI agree. Tin hat on but the mags should be free to spend as much as they like. If the owners aren’t holding the debt over the club then let them spend whatever they want.
it’s like me opening a burger place and complaining that McDonalds can outspend me on employees and products.
On that, did everyone have their European bans over turned? as for the €50mill fine, I don’t think they give a fuck, they’ll just plan that in the budget
That’s more my point really. That’s already how the game is. If the only way the mags (or anyone for that matter) can compete is by spending big, then this rule is solely used to stop them competing, not to save them from themselves. Can't really agree here mind. I get if it was say Barnsley (no offence to them) being bought out by someone with a million quid to his name and tried to use the clubs assets to take out loans to buy players etc. This isn’t the case, or doesn’t appear to be anyway.
I feel sick trying to defend the scumbags
That’s not my point though.Totally disagree.
I think if the mags had been bought by Amazon or Microsoft for example, we wouldn't be where we are today.
It's the fact they have been bought by a vile and murderous regime that's the issue and the reason why steps are being taken to block them. Gerrard or Conte would be at Newcastle now if there were different owners with mega cash.
It's not that they have money It's a case of where the money is coming from, a murderous state.
That’s not my point though.
I’m saying no club should be stopped spending money if they have it. Either that or the owner should be allowed to sponsor their club for as much as they want to get round that loophole
Fake Kate SheikhMaybe try and set up a rival fake Kate Stewart account and get an "I am Spartacus" sort of thing going.
Or Son of Steve or Alwaleeds Acolyte or something.
As mentioned, you're toast anyway, so you might as well gan out in a blaze of glory.
Immortalized when this goes gold.
Don’t get me wrong, the whole thing stinks.Where would it end if we have a country owning a club?
NUFC are effectively owned by KSA - the only thing separating them is a royal decree (from KSA) saying they are separate. PIF is funded by KSA and last year transferred 40bn from fx reserves to PIF. This directly links PIF to KSA. The government may not be making day to day decisions but they are funding PIF financially.
By your suggestion they could sponsor SJP of 1bn per season and with the revenue buy every striker from every Premier League team, pay them 1m a week and barely notice the impact on it's finances.
This isn't a rich person this is essentially a country with infinite resources. It's crazy.
I’m struggling to see why you think that’s a good thing. Having infinite resources to spend on players just skews the competition. It’s happened with City and Chelsea already, both champions league finalists.Don’t get me wrong, the whole thing stinks.
My point is though that any owner should be allowed to invest their own money if they want. Unlimited amount if they want. As long as it’s not used against clubs assets
The fact it’s already happening. Restricting clubs to compete is a lot worse for competition than allowing everyone to spend what they want.I’m struggling to see why you think that’s a good thing. As another poster has said, better to have a salary cap to improve competition. At the moment clubs lose players if they play well and can’t afford to keep them. Other clubs just float about in the premier league with no ambition other than survival as spending more money would risk their entire future.
It’s not a healthy situation
...and to cap all of that all it does is creates a huge escalation in footballing costs which cascades down the pyramidWhere would it end if we have a country owning a club?

Can’t take all the credit. If NUFC didn’t have so many attention-seeking lunatics among its support this thread would’ve died a long long time ago900 pages. Well done lads.....1000 coming soon!
