Although Racism isnt excusable i’d like to know the background of why a few people have alluded to rafiq being a right bad egg. Unless it’s to discredit him? Just so I can get a full picture of the scenario. Seems to be inoffensive enough on the face of it, i’d assume he was a lad who kept himself to himself??
I hate unsubstantiated shit like this but it is what it is. ‘I know someone who says’ type bollocks. In reality he won’t have spent time with him but is more likely choosing to believe gossip. Of course other players that have racially abused Rafiq will take that angle.I thought so too, but from speaking to someone on Saturday who has spent time in Rafiq’s company and also knows other players very well, by all accounts Rafiq is a right bellend who has made disgusting comments himself.
Of course, as you say this absolutely doesn’t excuse or justify the racism at all.

Even so the comments from your mate just sound like a standard defence of racists. He sounds like a bit of a twat. Your mate not Rafiq .Believe what you want mate, I know 100% he has spent time in Rafiq’s company on a few occasions. Nowt to do with gossip

Let's see someone publically accuse Rafiq of these comments (sticking their neck out for potential legal retribution if the weren't true of course) and have them cooperated by someone else then.I thought so too, but from speaking to someone on Saturday who has spent time in Rafiq’s company and also knows other players very well, by all accounts Rafiq is a right bellend who has made disgusting comments himself.

Not sure about this like if its due to him historically using the word 'Yid'. Spurs fans still use that word in a positive sense if you like. I think it would be reasonable to argue ignorance, as I think he has done, in this scenario.Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale suspended due to a historic tweet

Until then these type of stories can fuck off.
Not really mate. Gary Ballances comments could really open a Pandoras Box. He's admitted his comments, yet has hinted that Rafiq was just as bad ut wouldn't elaborate.Even so the comments from your mate just sound like a standard defence of racists. I haven't read the whole thread.
I just wanted to say that one of the things I really enjoy about cricket in our 'neck of the woods' is how diverse the game is. Aberdeen City Council have never really seen the value of supporting the game (removal of access to council pitches being a particular bug bear). I made the point to local press that there is no other sport where you will find Scots, English, Irish, South African, Zimbabwean, Australian, New Zealanders, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and even an Italian all happily mixing together on a Saturday afternoon.
I think Yorkshire CC are missing out.

From reading it that was my take on it aswelThe context for Gayle's tweet in 2010 was that he was engaging in online bantz with a friend of his who was working with Leeds United. As soon as he wrote it, his mate let him know why it crossed the line into offensive. He apologised and deleted the message immediately.
Ignorance is no excuse, of course, but it seems that everything had been sorted and lessons learned at the time.
Is Duthie Park still being used?I haven't read the whole thread.

Yes - nominally that's my team's home ground. But there is only 1 wicket there now (used to be 4).Is Duthie Park still being used?
