He won‘t be given the time afforded to a “name”. Without the wealth the mags have only accepted Keegan (huge name) and Rafa (won ECL with Liverpool). Robson was incredulous when they booed him for finishing 5th. Incredible footballers such as Dalglish, Souness and Ruud were pretty much hated. V neck jumper Eddie Howe, with a win rate below Bruce will be savaged if he doesn’t start winning games with a mediocre squad. They needed to offer an incredible salary to kick things off. If Dick were offered the same wage as Klopp (think it’s 15m) of course he would have gone.

The only positive is they may get a new manager bounce as the players will be thinking “panic over - it’s not Mbappe after all and we may get kept on”.

That’s from a Bournemouth mate

the bloke is a legend but its a bizarre appointment. He built a mini empire down there, always on the up from League 2 and had plenty of finance. But his Prem deals were patchy and he lost his way for much of the last 2 seasons.

I've seen Newcastle fans saying its good he'll be back working with 3 players. Wilson yeah, but Ritchie moved down to get away and Fraser downed tools when contract was running down.

I actually think he is an ok manager but he is going to be in for a rough ride. Not only is he not a big name, but the second Rafa gets booted by Everton, the pressure will be ramped up on him.

If somebody said two weeks ago your new owners targets had turned you down and you were settling on fifth or sixth choice would you still be delighted ?
I mean knowing the wealth of your owners was Howe even a candidate ?
I think not.
There’s something rotten in the state of Denmark……..

For the vast majority of clubs its par for the course to not get your first choice. Nobody knows on here how many they had ahead of him but regardless, I think it’s a decent appointment. At this stage, i believe hes an upgrade on his predecessor which is the most important thing.
