Clubs used to do it as it saved a payoff. Inc us a few times. They’d get their useful idiots in the media and happy clappers to bang on about how it worked for Liverpool and Rangers etc etc. Conveniently not mentioning that both were (Liverpool especially) doing it from a position of strength. Not a relegation battle.

I've a feeling that things haven't really panned out the way they assumed, and it feels like there's a complete lack of leadership at the top of the club contributing to the overall shit show?

I think they've totally underestimated the reaction. Looks like they assumed the reaction of the Mags to them would be similar from others, they could get any manager or players they wanted by waving wads of cash about and they'd be bowed down to everywhere they went as our Government appears to do.

So basically he agrees that their human rights record is disgusting but it should be ok because someone else’s is worse. Even taking into account Russia is nowhere near beheadings, chopping off limbs, stoning etc
Then add some tenuous link that Abramovich is doing it all for Putin
