Newcastle fans were desperate to be rid of Ashley. Rightly or wrongly, we hated him and wanted him gone. When the narrative was that the PL were dragging their feet over the takeover the fans tried to put pressure on them. When MPs saw an easy way to get a lift they jumped on board the train too.
If the PL had dragged their feet over a US Businessman there'd have been an 'over the top push' for that as well.

It's rumoured that RM are looking to offload him and have offered him to a number of clubs.
Given they want 42 million for him that would use up all of their transfer budget.
