Bbc2 - Four Hours at the Capitol

Having a country that isn't completely polarised. I'd agree that he was the only man who could have beaten Trump but he's clearly not the best option to be president (his vice president probably is).
She's not as she wouldnt have won

Biden isnt a remotely polorising candidate like, thats the point, thats how he could win and get blue collar voters

"Not the answer" would have been someone like Bernie Sanders

But, now he's in office, he's not great. He got voted in because he doesn't offend people. Anyone with even a vaguely left wing bone in their body won't get voted in in the US whereas, on the other side, people with some pretty right wing views are valid candidates. We're going down similar lines in the UK.

But you just said he was polarising?

He is, for, I guess, "non-political" reasons, I guess. He's seen by many on the right as part of the establishment. Let's face it, a fair few American voters wanted Trump because he wasn't a politician and he played on that. There's a mistrust there from a lot of voters. Biden will, of course, govern for all of the electorate, not just for those who voted for him, which is a step up on his predecessor.

Watched it, incredible and disgraceful that they were allowed in to the White House. I don't know if only Trump himself could have ordered more police reinforcements or even national guard, but I doubt that's the case. Have to wonder if it suited certain police chiefs and officers to have it happen.

Those were my exact thoughts as I watched. The storming of that building was too easy. People died because the police lines were so thin. And surely there should have been sufficient man power in reserve to bring in should the worst happen. After all trouble was predicted.

One of the police officers made a good point, that one-on-one the insurrectionists were cowards, but it was the sheer weight of volume that encouraged them. Always the numbers game. Hiding in the mob looks braver than running away on your own.

The footage of the shooting of the insurrectionist was telling. Pushing her way to the front of a smashed glass door, a pistol is raised in warning, they still try to burst through, so the officer defended his life and that of others from the baying mob.

Those 50 officers pushing back thousands near the end showed a great deal of tactical nous. Take the battle to a narrow corridor and then fight one-on-one at the front line, changing who was at the front to keep the mob in check. That was when their arses dropped.

"Just because they were wearing a Trump hat does not make them Trump supporters." Ah, yes, the AntiFa conspiracy.

I’m so glad they shot and killed that woman

Wish they’d killed the other tens of thousands anarl - what’s the point of the 2nd amendment if you can’t shoot thickies?

Disturbing when saw that policeman snatched and tasered by the mob , none of that was shown on the news at the time , heroic how they defended the tunnel

And the aftermath where they all seemed shocked and angry that one of them had been shot. Smashing the fuck out of a building while ignoring a gun trained on you and what did they expect to happen? It illustrates the never never land of entitlement they had, which extended to thinking they could just overturn an election because they didn't like the result.

Watched it this evening. It's fascinating, compulsive and disturbing television. It's bizarre that people genuinely believe that Trump was anointed by God to be president.
Watched it last night and that's what I thought. I swore at the telly a few times but probably no more than when that woman started praying loudly in the chamber and clearly thought that's how they got rescued.

The 50 cops holding that doorway were heros. The restraint used by the police was amazing, the woman who was shot deserved it they were trying to grab senators! Trump should have been charged but it wiuld have startes a civil war...

I'm watching it now. Madness that there was only a handful of police maning that first barrier at the bottom of the steps. Imagine if it had been a BLM protest. There would have been loads more police and they wouldn't have been shy about getting stuck in.

Also surely those appearing on this admitting their part in things should face charges.
