I'd rather my club was owned solely by the Reuben Brothers (and they're hardly squeaky clean). But, as with Ashley, I've no real say in who owns the club I support. I was here before the Saudis, I'll be here after them. I'll never defend them and will look to educate myself on their crimes so that when they're criticised I can say 'you think that's bad, what about when they did X', a better version of the whataboutery I'm seeing way, WAY too much of.

Fair enough Fish lad. You could do more though. If the protests against this lot had been as strong as they were against a bloke who wouldn't spend billions and offered zero hours contracts then maybe they might not have bought you

Stag-dos wearing lederhosen aren't offending Germans, football fans wearing berets and striped t-shirts aren't offending the French, a few morons wearing headscarves are not offending the Saudis.

The protests against Ashley's ownership had no effect. And trust me, there'll be protests against the Saudis when we're not buying Mbappe in January.

It won't be long before Saudi flags are banned from the mags terrace . The Saudis can't allow the word of Allah to be around alcohol and profanity .
Be great hearing the mags tell us why it's only right that they should be dictated to 😆

Correct. Interest (riba) from money alone is not permitted & there has to be some sort of trade or underlying contract. In substance though it can effectively be the same. A good example is comparing a traditional mortgage with an Islamic mortgage, for say a house costing £100k with the resident putting in 20% deposit:

Traditional mortgage
owner/resident pays interest on the 80% mortgage & either repays the initial capital back in say 20 - 25 years or gradual amounts each year

Islamic mortgage
Islamic finance provider owns 80% of the house & therefore charges rent on their share. Resident can later buy tranches of the house from the Islamic provider to increase their own share & pay less rent.

I think the islamic finance providers have to provide an APR for comparison purposes but the substance of paying "rent" and increasing your share of the property is not much different to paying interest & repaying capital on a mortgage. I think there was a loophole where people used Islamic finance to purchase expensive properties as there was no clear outright owner and therefore avoided paying stamp duty, but I think that loophole may have been closed.

How do you know they weren’t offending Saudis ? They are a completely different culture and not a tolerant one at that !! And it wasn’t just a few morons
