They signed some excellent players back then - Ferdinand, Gillespie, Batty, Lee, Shearer,Albert, Ginola.....but the game has moved on and players can be more selective and like to "join a project". I am also unconvinced that they will splurge and it will be a more intelligent strategy (think Leicester rather than City 2008). If they make a big name signing in Jan then that will tell the squad that is us "fecked" leading o a divided dressing room and hopefully relegation.
