I’ve long looked at me dad and been kind of envious when he’s so dispassionate about the mags. When they win, he shrugs his shoulders and when they lose, he cracks a wry smile.

I’ve wondered whether that comes with age and maturity - as I remember when I was younger he was far more partisan about the rivalry.

After a couple of days of following this takeover and getting all irate about the ethics of it when deep down I know it’s mainly that I’m dreading their gloats and the media wankathon - I’ve just decided to ignore it all and concentrate on SAFC only from now on. Be more like the old man.

Some might say it’s burying my head in the sand but I think it’s fair to say that the Newcastle I’ve known and hated for 30+ years has died / sold its soul and looks like it’s been replaced with something completely different.

I haven’t got the energy to stay tuned as the transformation happens.

No more checking their scores, avoiding MOTD if they win, getting all wound up when a mag walks in a pub that I’m at. I won’t be doing anything more than rolling my eyes and shrugging my shoulders at them.

I’ll dislike them in the way that I dislike Man City and Chelsea.

Ha’way the lads

Great article, again we'll see the hypocritical Premier League, FA, TV companies and of course the Newcastle Labour MP's turn a blind eye to the racist, misogynist, homophobic murderous regime who have bought their way into the English game with their blood money, However I'm also sure we'll also keep seeing millionaire footballers keep taking a knee, promoting LGBTQ+ rights while filling their pockets with cash... shame on you..

I get ya I was gutted and bedwetting this time yesterday but now I’ve realised there’s nowt we can do about it, they will buy trophies along the way but everyone knows they won’t win anything and any silverware was bought. The rest of the country are seeing how embarrassing their fans are and will all join us in hoping they fail miserably. We won’t be their rivals now (unless they beat us) it will be Man City and Man U in their eyes. The media are loving it and it will be unbearable at times but will make any failures that much sweeter.

Unfortunately I think that it is reasonably inevitable now.
There's nothing inevitable about it. The mags appear to think that the wealth fund, which is 50 years worth of effort and investments is actually cash sat waiting to be spent on nufc. In reality, column K, Row 68, Tab 227 of the PIF spreadsheet is where the mags investment sits. The crown prince will even have to change the settings to print them off.

Pretty much agree. I don't blame the mags for getting carried away. If it was us, the reaction would have been similar (hopefully with less tea towels on heads but you never know). We'd have those completely opposed to it, quite a lot saying they would rather it wasn't them but it isn't their place to get involved, and those loving it.

The biggest disappointment for me has been the politicians and the authorities. The Premier league, who seemed to be rejecting them partly because of the human rights record, but who will actually pretend they aren't linked to the Saudi state as soon as they sort out a purely financial piracy issue. The MP who, rightly, condemns some of Ashley's business practice and suggests he's unsuitable to be in the game, but who welcomes a much worse regime into the fold.

The league will support some rainbow laces whilst approving a deal which brings in people who throw gays off buildings. It shows all their campaigns to be the shallow, PR exercises that we know them to be. Then I notice even the Newcastle LGBTQ supporters group haven't commented (maybe that will happen, but their twitter is silent so far and if they don't oppose this then they aren't fit for purpose).

Don't want it to seem like sour grapes, there are actually some decent mags and there's plenty of them who aren't much different to us. They'll enjoy the ride and, although I naturally hope they win fuck all, there are a few that I'd struggle to begrudge getting some hope. But the way those in a position to influence or block it have allowed it to happen with barely a whimper is a disgrace. They could look to reform the fit and protest person test but, genuinely, why bother? They've already let this bloke in, the horse has bolted
