NUFC/Sportwashing

I certainly wouldn't, neither would you. Anyone saying they would is lying to themselves. Football sold its soul years ago. No point in getting all righteous about it now.

Still can't say I'm all that bothered. This is the mags we're talking about. They'll find a way to make a pigs ear of it and the protests will start up again before long.

I don't think the Saudi Royal Family should be involved with anything to do with the UK. I want our government to stop trade with them and I wouldn't want them to own Sunderland.

Not being funny but the Tories are horrendous bastards and don't even give a fook about the average UK folk (except when it involves winning elections) so I don't expect any kind of ethical resistance to the engagement of a murderous regime in NUFC.

Still, as someone above put it so well, the half time spectacle of amputating limbs will be a bit more dramatic than just going for a pie.

Obviously, a part of me wants Ashley to stay forever, but a part of me remains quite intrigued about the whole thing. Once again, we've slipped back into the same old tactic of 18 months ago of getting the fans' hopes up through loads of off the record briefings. Given how much Staveley and co. crowed on about the takeover the first time around, you'd think they'd learn their lesson and wait until the takeover was over the line.

As usual, there's no mention of any kind of plans - they've had 18 months to think this through, yet there's been zero detail on what they're actually going to do once they're through the door.

And also as usual, the Saudis still can't even bring themselves to publicly mention that they want to buy an overseas football club. Clearly they do, but it's weird that it doesn't ever seem to warrant a mention when they reveal their long-term plans for sport.

It's basically a circus already.

They’re going to give Mandy the boot if they take over. Let’s see how much Newcastle fans really care about her now

If we were about to become the richest club in Word football nobody would care less. If in a couple of years time we were watching some of the world's best players at the SoL I guarantee there'd be no complaints about the owners. People are kidding kidding themselves if they say otherwise.

its easy to say this now but i really think i would pack it in to be honest. i despise the thought of us being owned by the likes of that regime. the absolute antithesis of what the club, and football, is about and built on. the startling thought that i have friends that these people would brutally murder just for being themselves would be enough for me

I don't want the Saudi Royal Family owning Sunderland.

Their human rights record is an absolute disgrace and that means more than winning any trophy.

If the Saudis take over and try and do things properly ie. Invest in the academy and infrastructure, scout young unheard of players and spend within their means (similar to what KLD is doing here) the mags will be livid. They'll just want to spend spend spend.

PL don't care about that or the murder of a journalist. Purely about piracy affecting their bottom line.

That's the worst thing about it.

I don't blame fans for wanting it to happen but for this to initially become unstuck on TV rights and not the human rights shows you what they are all about.

It'll be interesting to see how they cope with being the most unpopular club in the world as opposed to 'everyone's second club'
