There would be countless people involved in the cover up.
We've know for sure since the 1500s that it's a ball. The ancient Greeks worked out it was a ball. There's a lot of liars past and present if it is flat.

There's no proof today so trying to argue they knew it was a ball since the 1500's is pretty futile. By all means argue for it but know you are arguing by appealing to authority and have no means to verify a truth.

What control have any of these people past and present, who have lied to us, had over us?

I can't help you with that if you feel you are not under any control and you don't think the few own the majority of the wealth/land and so on, that we are privy to.
Seriously I cannot offer anything to aid you in that quest. Just accept that you are not controlled and everything is fine for you. I'll stick to my thoughts.

And another thing using your chocolate orange wrapper analogy the lines of equal latitude will be opened out and as such we will end up with all points of equal latitude being the same distance from the "super carbon" source of heat / light / sound. Shanghai (where I am at this moment) is on a latitude of around 31 degrees north (4061 miles from the North Pole or whatever is there) and right now it is dark. Sunderland is 54 degrees North (2425 miles from the North Pole) hence is much closer to the source of heat / light than Shanghai but (and someone in Sunderland can confirm this for me but at 21:07 Shanghai time which is 2:05 PM UK time) in Sunderland it is currently light. How does that work then?

It seems that people into sailing, a quite common thing to do with retirement lump sum is to quit work and head off around the globe. The majority of the routes involve sailing around the southern oceans, which are massive massive distances n your unfolded world.
