Insulate Britain

Only a matter of time before someone is killed
On the other hand, people freeze to death every year due to lack of insulation- so people are already dying, and nobody is taking the matter seriously until protestors do things that cause shock in the media.

I do feel bad for those who get inconvenienced, but I really don't see what else the protestors can do? If they don't do something like this, they will simply by ignored entirely. As always.

They could go round offering insulation for cost.

Greta Thunberg aimed for protest rather than disruption. It worked.

Would you be as accepting if you didn’t agree with the political cause; if this was an anti-immigrant action for example?

Completely take that point, but if you imagine public support and exposure to the cause as a bell curve, they are probably past the peak of the effectiveness of the protests now, especially if we are at the point of bystanders dragging them out the road.

Possibly not so much, if I'm being honest. Not as happy, no.
Yet I'd grit my teeth and still stick to my view that free speech and the right to reasonable, peaceful protest is absolutely correct.

(Mind, i'm fairly neutral on immigration, but I understand what you were getting at so I answered accordingly)

Yep, there has to be a line.

I was at an airport the other day, and I'd have been gutted if I couldn't go on holiday due to a protest like this. So its fair to say that its easy to support these actions when I'm not the one being inconvenienced.

On the other hand, I'm sick of seeing corporate replies that start "Whilst we entirely agree that urgent action is needed to address the climate crisis, we don't believe this is the way".
Because all that means is "fuck off impacting on me, personally".

I'm going away on the 15th, and I'll be livid if I get held up, but I take your points entirely.

I know this is a cheap point, but they could start by insulating their own homes and not making themselves look like massive hypocrites on tv.

Maybe they have?
I know I have. I have full loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, under floor insulation too (I have a voided/raised-vented floor).

I'm sure the general feeling is that these are all doley-scroungers, so they'll all have been given free insulation grants too ;)
She's a bloody good actor then.

Disrupting the lives of ordinary people will gain you no support for the cause you espouse.
I know, hence the devils advocate disclaimer.
If you have a line, and you listen to everyone who approaches you, and you let people through based on what they say, then you no longer have a line.

You either do it, or you don't. You can't really have half-measures.

I agree with that but in the end they will look like heartless idiots.

I think their tactics are woeful.

I was referring to a few pages back with the lad being interviewed refusing to comment because he hadn't had his house done.

My feeling is these lot are more like scones and afternoon tea in the garden with an Agatha Christie novel, until the butler fixes supper.

Mind, it would be interesting to find out how much it would cost a government to finance quality insulation for homes when compared to other measures of reducing CO2 output.

Any protest which disrupts for environmental aims is good in my book. We’ve done fuck all for 30 years, tinkering around the edges is not helping.
