Building a road bridge

Got that sorted a while ago now was fairly straight forward but took a while to process. Will be making my first ever visit next Summer hopefully

Why is this a stupid idea? The French are all for it and it would connect us via road with 2 of our largest trading partners

For christ sake do you ever stop and think about stuff before you post it?

Because it is one of the worlds busiest shipping lanes

Which means that the bridge would have to be suspended high above the channel to allow shipping to pass underneath it

Which would mean that the towers to support the spans would need to be incredibly high, maybe the highest in the world

Which would make it incredibly vulnerable to wind

In a stretch of water famous for high winds and turbulent seas

And it would cost an unknown sum of money, because no-one has ever had a safe design yet. You don't even have a survey of the seabed so you don't even know where you can build it and how

And every previous attempt has foundered as it was stupidly expensive

And we already have a tunnel which gets you from one side to the other in 30 mins, which has slack capacity

And the tunnel (which was much cheaper to build than the bridge would be) still hasn't paid back its construction costs, and lost its investors shit loads of cash which means no one will put money into a bridge

Please in future try and think about the nonsense that you post

just drain the sea annd build a road. Job's sorted.

Alternatively, just sit out the current increase in average temperatures and wait until the next ice age. Then build a traditional road across at the most financially viable crossing once the sea has fucked off on top of the Pennines.

Channel - build a bridge over one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, in a location where the weather is hugely inconsistent - or build a tunnel

GB-NI - build something over the trench where we happened to dump our excess WW2 munitions - that sounds like a great idea....not
why not just blow them up, pick up the stunned fish and then build the bridge

Or employ Moses.

Zoning regulations.
Start it on our side till you get to their waters. Can just get a ferry the rest of the way.

I could be wrong, but havenā€™t we also dumped a load of nuclear waste in pretty much the same area?

Hovercraft, always loved seeing the hovercraft.

Could we not have one big conveyor belt? A bloke sticking stuff on at one end and another collecting it at the other. Would be like a massive generation game.

The modern equivalent is the Hyperloop.

think theyā€™ve already been trialled. Sure musk has looked at them. I think they are more the modern monorail rather than conveyor belt personally.

We could install a slide to get to Australia. It'd be a nightmare getting the stairs back up though.
How can we when itā€™s flat? Unless we go up the stairs first to slide down to Australia?

No, No, No - bridges are dangerous. What we need is a monorail. Lionel if you want any advice just ask Yorkshire they were sold one in the guise of a road race.

From Britain to NI and from Britain to France. Why has this never been done ? Would surely make a lot of sense for trade and make it much easier and cost effective to drive to the continent if there was a small toll instead of the ferry hassle.
I'll chuck in a spade and a couple of bags of cement from Wickes if you want to make a start.

Wait for the next ice and build a railway. You seen Snowpiercer?
