Russ was a good friend of mine, through my in laws. Lived a few streets from me on the same estate. He was very pally with my two BIL's who are also mags and we used to drink with him in the Ryton club on a Sunday lunchtime and then the Ryton Hotel, with me being the token Sunderland fan. Had many a heated discusssion with him over the football and we would both give as good as we got but always end with a handshake and 'see you next week'. To be honest I never knew he posted on here.

I heard on Saturday from my wife that he had passed away :(. I had not seen him for a few years other than bumping into him in the local supermarket and knew he had not been well and that he had to give up work a few years back, but due to the obvious reasons, opportunities to bump into each other has been hugely reduced for the last 18 months.

He was a proper football fan who travelled all over the country (and Europe) watching Newcastle and I totally get that as I am the same with Sunderland (minus the Europe bit obviously!!). He was a top lad for a mag ;). He was born with curvature of the spine but never seemed to let that effect him and he was always friendly and good company. He was the sort of bloke who if you met you would remember it and I can imagine literally thousands of Newcastle fans would know him. Big loss to their fan base.

RIP mate, and I will have a beer for you tonight, although non of that bottled lager shite you used to drink!!!

Thoughts are with his friends and family especially his young daughter.
