What do you do for charity?

Used to be a crisis line volunteer for SHOUT but stopped it a month or two ago.

Other than that can't really say I've ever done much, odd donation here and there mostly loose change when in shops.

just over 20 years ago I made the decision to donate 10% of my earnings to charity, some of these are by DD and then I top up with adhoc Just Giving things etc
I never give money to chuggers, but I'm not sure these count I did sign up for a DD to the London Air Ambulance when they had a stand up in the hospital I was going to
You’ve give over half a million to charity?

no such thing as a selfless act

We can only comment from inside our own worlds.
You don't like to brag about it though.
If he was minded to brag it would be all over other threads, as other posters do about their cars, jobs, houses, number of women they have bedded etc. It's the first time I've heard it and it's a cracking effort. That suggests he has only mentioned it on a thread that specifically asks what you do for charity. Is there anything wrong with doing that like? :)

No. I was kidding.
I don't want attention, I just want to be well thanks.

Yes I know, thanks for pointing it out though.

You’re welcome.

Rarely put money in buckets, other than change from shops if they've got a box on the counter or at the match.
I give some of my time to the Alzheimer's Society and Age UK, offering advice and support to those with dementia and their carers.
Used to loads more but not physically up to it any more.

Monthly subs for (look at me):
  • PDSA
  • Save the Children
  • Unicef
  • National Deaf Children's Society
  • WWT
  • National Trust
  • Cancer Research (Lottery)
You could argue that the last three aren't charities but I can't remember the last time I visited a National Trust property or the Wildfowl Park. As for the lottery...

I wish you'd send it my way if you had!

Lotteries raise millions for charities. They've been a massive source of income over the pandemic when everything else has gone to shit.

I donate unwanted stuff to local charities also occasionally buy books etc. from them. Recently set up a D/D to look after Gopal and his friends. The locals didn't take too kindly to him eating them and their cattle.

That's got me thinking. I've seen ads to sponsor and save a tiger. It would be bloody annoying if you did that, you then went over to visit it and the bugger ate you. No more donations from me mate.

I have my eBay account linked to the dogs trust and every time I buy something I donate a couple of quid. Also buy what I can from charity shops. The socks I'm wearing now were bought from Barnardo's. The wife's parents were Salvationists and she likes to support the salvation army. She reads a lot and buys as many books as she can from their shops. I used to have a standing order to a charity but got sick of being asked to increase the amount. So I cancelled.
