Just to make it clear according to Moeen the England captain had asked earlier if he could bowl his seamers and was told no. He continued with a couple of overs of spin and then was going to bring a seamer on knowing it would end the days play. In short Root decided our best chance was with the nee ball. The decision had nothing to do with caving into Kohli.
