Northern trains

so essentially for a so-called developed country, it looks like our transport infrastructure is barely third world
I've travelled all over Europe, watching Sunland playing in pre season friendlies, and every regional train I've used on my travels, has been clean, spacious, comfortable, on time, and each train has more than enough carriages, to satisfy passenger demand.
Our regional train service, is an absolute bad joke. 💩

It's a hell of a mess

And when privatised company aren't making enough they hand back the franchise to the government and we all pay the bill.
Conversely when e.g. Virgin doesn't win a contract, Branson sues the government and they stump up because he's got deep pockets and/or it was the government's intention all the while to keep him sweet but they know he's a useless train operator.
Privatised profits, socialised loses I think they call it

Transport spending in London is two-and-a-half times more per person than in the north of England, new figures have shown.
Treasury data shows that in 2018-19, £903 was spent in the capital for every resident, while the north had £376.
Passengers in Leeds said it showed "one rule for them and one rule for us".
The government said its spending decisions were "rigorous and fair", and said the figures did not include money for future projects like HS2.

Pretty much.

an indian family once waited at hartlepool ages then conductor said theyd have to wait for next. Me n others objected, pram had to go in with driver n family stood crammed with footy fans, they looked bewildered to say the least. Disgrace.

I sometimes think, what it must be like , for someone from say Germany or Holland travelling on a train up the NE coast. God knows what would go through their minds.

Has anyone ever been on that what they call a parliamentary train from Darlington to Hartlepool on a Sunday evening? Only runs once a week, and it is absolutely filthy , must be in the sheds all week, then they wheel it out every Sunday.

A Parliamentary train or Parly (also referred to as a ghost train) is, nowadays, a British English term for a train that operates a Parliamentary service - that is to say a token service to a given station, thus maintaining a legal fiction that either the station in question or, in some cases, the whole line is in fact open, whereas in reality the train operating company in question has almost completely abandoned the station or line.

Debating getting on from seaton on sat which is abdolutely bonkers in this day n age.

Going 6 mile south when i only need to go 20 north ffs.

Seaton would be a better option the Hartlepool to get a seat, the Wigan match a load piled on at Hartlepool with the odd few having to stand.

Might just be worth avoiding it altogether and hoping the grand central is on from Hartlepool
I’m sure I read on here they aren’t running until December?
I’ll be getting the 9:40 train from thornaby as it was awful on the 10:40 last week. Felt really uncomfortable on board.

The earliest Grand Central train that gets into Sunderland on a Saturday is 1451 so a bit late for the match! The one that gets into Sunderland just after 12 only runs Monday-Friday for some reason.
