The Hundred - Free tickets

I’ve given up officially now. My observations

1) franchise cricket is bullshit. I struggle with the IPL but this is way worse
2) the impact on counties is pathetic
3) changing the balls per over is just absurd
4) it’s ridiculously tacky
5) the one saving grace will be the positive impact on the women’s game
1) I‘m not opposed to having a franchise league in England as I was but The Hundred isn’t it.
2) Agreed, especially when it looks like most of the people at the game tonight are the same people who go to watch The Blast so the “New Audience“ argument an get in the bin.
3) Yep, just make it T20. Everyone knows what T20 is, don’t complicate it.
4) Agreed....again.
5) I’m chuffed for the women like.

Boundary is ridiculously short in this game.
My nan could clear those boundaries.

Aye it might just work just for the women’s game (but would it be condescending to have them playing this while the blokes play proper cricket?)

I just don’t know why they didn’t just do franchise T20. Never liked the idea of franchises but it was always going to happen eventually. This is just T20 but with a few less balls and five ball overs isn’t it? Change for the sake of it

If they did an IPL style league (8 teams, 14 games) then you could have teams play between different grounds. E.G. Northern Superchargers playing between Headingley and CLS or Welsh Fire becoming Welsh-Western Fire and playing between Cardiff and Taunton.
It’s definitely shorter like. Some T20 games are over 3.5 hours.
Maybe in the IPL but not The Blast.

why do we need to reduce the number of teams? Having 20 in the Footy Prem League doesn't stop people watching. Give Lancs £40m to dominate and become everyones fav team and you're on to a winner. Cantona could do the half time draw.

I like the cut off time, potentially.

The thing is, T20 had a cut off time when it was first brought in, it used to be that you had 70 minutes to start the 20th over. It worked well, there was a run penalty for teams that missed the timing.

For some reason though it got abandoned and it’s got so bad that I’ve seen innings of the IPL that go close to two hours to complete. Absolute insanity.

If broadcasters want a short, sharp game, that can still be achieved with T20. You just make sure time restraints are enforced. If the team fielding first has only bowled 18 overs at 70 minutes, then they forfeit an over of the chase. Would be a piece of piss to do.

I remember Yorkshire winning a Roses game partly (ok a lot) thanks to that rule. Six run penalty.

The same game Finch hit that stupid point thing with a six. Last time we won there in that format I think

KPs commentary is hideous as well like
He’s a bit like marmite at the best of times and I’ve never been a hater, but I heard him on tonight and it was embarrassing. Trying far too hard (and not succeeding) to force excitement at the most mundane thing.

I remember that too. Fairly sure in the early days a side lost a semi final because they bowled their overs too slowly.

It’s hard to argue against there being a new audience when TV viewing figures are several times those that have been seen before in the UK.

Yes, the Blast on BBC might have done the same but that’s a similar argument.

Early signs are that it is reaching more people, which is undeniably a good thing.

Similarities with GB News and their early figures. Let’s see what the figures are in a fortnight.

I think undoubtedly they could have left it at T20 as the concept clearer works in BBL & IPL and is clearly very popular and imo very entertaining.

Had the same teams in the same cities, with the same names the same exposure and the same promotion.

To go 5 ball 10 ball not sure why that needed as well.

If they wanted 100 balls, why didn’t you just reduce T20 to 5 ball overs? Much easier to follow than 6 ball overs then 5 ball overs tbh.

I don’t care about the format tbh, could have lived with that, but to exclude 10 out of 18 counties from it to share the wealth amongst the others is pathetic, and I don’t have a team to support as Durham aren’t represented, so I see no more reason to watch this than the big bash tbh

I’ve flicked it on a few times and aspects are baffling. The ends thing is weird. Is it a ten ball set or whatever? How many balls can each bowler bowl in a game?

Don’t get me started on Kevin Pietersen.
