The Hundred - Free tickets

Watched last nights game with an open mind. The graphics are absolutely hideous mind, much worse than expected  I just find the whole thing totally pointless, the format is absolutely no improvement on t20. In what way is it more simple than a t20! Let's be honest if the whole point is to get more people into the sport and they can't be arsed to deal with the extra complexities of a normal t20 over the hundred they are hardly going to stick around and become fans of the game are they.

Put the money into the blast, get decent overseas players in and let the England one day lads play and attendances will increase massively imo. The standard of the blast compared to the global franchises is the issue, not the format.

Would've been better to rebrand it as the 96.Under 13's rules.8 a side .4 pairs each batting 4 overs.Start with 200 then deduct 8 for each wicket lost. All fielders bowl at least 1 over to a maximum of 3. .Worked well since the 70's.

How do you think removing county cricket from this area is going to help cricket ‘flourish’ in this area?
Who said it was getting removed or wanted it removed from this area?
I find it difficult to understand why people like yourself are so desperate to kill off Durham CCC, take cricket away from half the country and seriously harm the Test team. I find it difficult to understand why you think deliberately limiting the exposure of cricket, but pushing the 16.4 is a good idea. But there you go.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure you will get your way and you will kill the game forever. Such a shame.

There were less people in the Oval last night than Surrey's average Blast attendance in 2019 (the last undistributed season), and there's rain forecast in Manchester for Sunday, so maybe there's hope. :D

Mine too.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am certainly desperate to kill off Durham CC at all.

However like I have said many many times the decline of club cricket and it’s participants and volunteers is more of a concern of mine then Durham.

Any increased exposure and promoting of cricket (any format)

Has to be a good thing?
My objective is quite the opposite of killing the game, it is increasing the participation of cricket in villages and towns throughout the country to help the game flourish, so the more exposure cricket gets on tv the better!!

Whether that be test cricket, 50 over, T20 or The Hundred is not a massive concern to me.

Just as long as more cricket is promoted and exposed to people is what is needed imo
No, but TV/ YouTube will more than counteract it is his point.

Great initial viewing figures but yes county T20 could probably have done the same.
That’s the point people are kind of missing I was exposed to masses of cricket as a kid by watching it a club level and on the telly.

The fact there was no first class county in the area at the time had no bearing on my enjoyment and exposure in the slightest

Oh for f*ck sake 🤦‍♂️

But it isn’t all about you is it, you melt?

How many Durham/Northumberland cricketers played for England prior to 1992?

And how many have done so since??

Why do you think that is?

I have tried to explain in great detail that I care about club cricket first and foremost and the principle of local communities and good local cricket clubs.

There is absolutely nothing wrong at all with that principle

I have also seen these clubs decline and decline over recent years and want any kind of cricket to be exposed more and more, not bothered about ‘ the hundred’ just bothered about cricket getting more coverage and exposure.

Rightly or wrongly that is currently the hundred so I am pleased cricket is getting more coverage, this week there has actually been cricket on Sky and the BBC.

Of course that is good for cricket!!

If you want to twist because the competition was the ECB idea or it does not include Durham you just crack on.

More star names on show tonight. I mean I like to think I know a bit about the English domestic game, but who the fuck are Chris Benjamin and Blake Cullen?

I see that the target audience can apparently cope with the concept of fielding positions, square leg, short leg, point, extra cover, mid off, cow corner etc but not with overs. ??

So yet again the foreign international players, are players who have played in the blast before.

Can't really blame the pandemic as the other players that were scheduled to play, are involved with their international teams anyway.
