Lack of transfers concerning?

Do i speak to a mate almost daily yes, but do i get my info off him, no. i have now lost my best 2 club sources, so anything i get now comes from agents and FA i deal with.

I think they thought with new owners we would have 26-28000 card holders the new kit, the new sponsors, the new catering facilities inside the ground we would have a few quid with the reduced wages and paying off old debts.
IMHO i think if they don't invest in 5 proper players, and a couple more fringe players we will be stuck here for another season.
I didn’t realise he was a mate, it was a question with no malice. I feel I need to point that out by your reply.

I was wondering if that’s where you get info but not on the money all of the time as he isn’t as close to it anymore (thankfully). You’ve answered that in your reply though, thanks.

As a neutral I have to be honest I would have thought your new owners would have pushed the boat out a bit more. And it pains me as I think this is a great time to buy or loan with fees dropping like a stone. Players are dragging their contacts out fair do’s as they will never do as well again. Honestly I can’t work out your owners ambition. You shouldn’t have to wait for Grigg to go and free up his wages. You can’t miss the boat especially as the likes of Ipswich and Wigan are giving it a go. Rotherham are always up there. I can’t get my head around it tbh and believe me I want you lot up. I fully understand why a lot of you are pessimistic.
Nail on the head for me that mate

We cant afford to have a bad start to the season which at the moment looks like we will struggle with present squad

I agree mate. I mean imagine if we get beat off Wigan in the first game? It will be typical if we do and a likely reality.

My main fear is that KLD has fallen into a similar trap that SD and CM fell into which is assuming that a club of our size should be promoted by default. We should be able to get promoted sustainably. But if we go the sustainable route we are on the same footing, indeed a lower footing, than most others. I say lower, because a lot of other clubs have decided to go unsustainable.

I also therefore have sympathy for Speakman. Did he for example think we'd have more room for manoeuvre with budgets? Did he assume, as an outsider, than players would want to come and play for us. Not realising that no player really cares about the size of the stadium they play in.

And did LJ get sold a dream that can't be delivered?

They've all spoken a very good game, but none of them had any experience in delivering what they said they would do. KLD has been around football for ages but never run a football club, certainly not in League One. Speakman has run an academy but is now thrown into running a whole club, with his hands tied behind his back in that he's having to ensure we don't spend much money during a period when our rivals have decided to ignore the sustainability rules.

I guess my point is that it feels like the club is being run from a textbook. A lot of theory. Not much nuance or substance.

Great post.

Spot on, yet many are defending our approach. It's got that bad our expectations are pretty much rock bottom.

It's 'cos all the other teams are buying all the shite players, we are gonna wipe the floor with them when we get Jorginho, Spinazzola and Mbappe as a result of taking our time

Why is it, that some clubs appear to have a strategy whereas both our clubs appear to be utterly surprised everytime the window opens.

PL clubs aren't constrained by wages spend being limited.

I honestly question whether Sunderland are an attractive proposition to top L1 players. Our fan base want to be back in the big time and see players as more disposable than the fans of perhaps less ambitious clubs.

There is so little affection for players, even the likes of Luke O’Nien who has been a model professional throughout his three years with us. Some players such as Lee Burge seem to be despised by a significant proportion of our fans.

I can well see how a top L1 player who knows his limitations would rather play for a smaller club where he will be popular and respected.
