Lack of transfers concerning?

Let's be honest, most fans will have looked at his scoring record at Watford and probably thought we might have a decent striker here. Maybe not the success he turned out to be but definitely someone who could do a good job for us

We got them mixed up and are trying to sign players who don't want to come here as they see themselves as Championship players
I must have been in the minority who hadn't heard of him and didn't check his goal scoring record then because I didn't expect much.

My main fear is that KLD has fallen into a similar trap that SD and CM fell into which is assuming that a club of our size should be promoted by default. We should be able to get promoted sustainably. But if we go the sustainable route we are on the same footing, indeed a lower footing, than most others. I say lower, because a lot of other clubs have decided to go unsustainable.

I also therefore have sympathy for Speakman. Did he for example think we'd have more room for manoeuvre with budgets? Did he assume, as an outsider, than players would want to come and play for us. Not realising that no player really cares about the size of the stadium they play in.

And did LJ get sold a dream that can't be delivered?

They've all spoken a very good game, but none of them had any experience in delivering what they said they would do. KLD has been around football for ages but never run a football club, certainly not in League One. Speakman has run an academy but is now thrown into running a whole club, with his hands tied behind his back in that he's having to ensure we don't spend much money during a period when our rivals have decided to ignore the sustainability rules.

I guess my point is that it feels like the club is being run from a textbook. A lot of theory. Not much nuance or substance.

Would you suggest we go after players who other team's don't want (Danny Graham) or throw money at players to get them here (Rodwell, Grigg)?

If we have to be patient hen so be it I would rather we didn't land players who are better than what we have than get players in who don't add anything but numbers to the squad.

We need fullbacks in, even two average ones while we chase after 1st choice players. At present our fullback options are worse than when we had Hume, McLaughlin and O'nien all injured last season

I hadn't heard much but the first thing I did was look at his record at Watford as I do with any striker we sign or are linked with and it was very good

I do agree with this to an extent. But 1 year deals at most. The last thing we want to be doing is giving a crap player a 2 year deal just so we have a right back for one game. That player might then hinder us next summer in terms of having deadwood we can't shift.

We'd need them as back up at least irrespective of who we bring in so it wouldn't be just for one game.

Problem is we only have 2 weeks to get it right, or LJ can use the excuse we are still gelling together it takes time.
The players who have moved who we were after COULD have given the place a lift, i think Piggott would have been a decent signing for this shit league in place of that accident AOB. WTF is he about.

if we were in the prem i would agree, the shops in the bridges are shite, but we are a div 1 club mate with 26000 season cards sold
Is 26,000 factual or a bit of guesstimating, last I heard it was 22k and we have hardly been active in the optimism front since then.

No I understand that - I mean we don't want to be offering the likes of Connor McLaughlin 2 year deals now, even if it means we need to play O'Nien or Winchester for a couple of games at right back.

One year deal, yeh, fine. But we shouldn't be hamstringing ourselves for the future.

Absolute rubbish. Some smashing people in the NE, very friendly, salt of the earth.
the keyword being "some" you wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire most of them, right? I suppose it depends on where you live in the NE. durham is a posh part, Harry Potter springs to mind.

to be fair if people kept leaking info about my business, even in the form of cryptic riddles, I'd go out of my way to keep them in the dark.

Especially when a few days ago some bloke posted those 5 names quite brazenly.

Can imagine a lot of "ITK" stuff may go quiet whilst things go hypersensitive around that

We might have someone else lined up mate.

I'm hoping the club have simply learned not to fill the squad with rubbish just because they're there/easy and will only sign specific targets. The window also doesn't end til August, just FYI.

Not ideal, but not a disaster either. I'll judge the recruitment and strategy in August/September.

This line that it's taking us ages to sign players because we are going after ones we really really want (and therefore others do), is utter horseshit imho.

There's no hidden unearthed gems out there that we know about and no one else does. I'll bet most clubs in Champo and even league 1 are using the up to date, data driven analytical approach. We haven't reinvented the wheel fhs. It's there for every club who can afford it, to use.

We just aren't making coming here attractive enough whether due to contract length, wages, can't agree fee, maybe our geographical position ffs, whatever it is, players aren't coming like we thought they would.

Very concerning with 16 days to go and a squad that overall, is mediocre at best.
you are spot on, however if KLD is sticking by his words and the club must self sustain for 1 year, then we are fecked

We're now nearly 2 weeks away before the season starts and still massively short on quality.

- Hume is still yet to sign a contract and we haven't replaced him;
- Pritchard hasn't been involved in a pre-season friendly due to having to isolate;
- O'Nein has been injured as well as isolating;
- We have one capable striker (Ross).

What is going on? I'm really surprised we haven't signed a player this week. It's pretty poor really, only 3 signings so far (excluding the U23s keeper).
We cant afford to have a bad start to the season which at the moment looks like we will struggle with present squad

My worry is the influence of two other shareholders or one in particular. Hope I’m wrong to worry like.
Being sustainable and successful is difficult with high salaried shite like AOB, Wright and Grigg I’d say. In terms of when we get the signings to improve quality I’m easy except for the full backs. We must sort out the full back situation. Sitting waiting for discounts is difficult with these two

As a neutral I have to be honest I would have thought your new owners would have pushed the boat out a bit more. And it pains me as I think this is a great time to buy or loan with fees dropping like a stone. Players are dragging their contacts out fair do’s as they will never do as well again. Honestly I can’t work out your owners ambition. You shouldn’t have to wait for Grigg to go and free up his wages. You can’t miss the boat especially as the likes of Ipswich and Wigan are giving it a go. Rotherham are always up there. I can’t get my head around it tbh and believe me I want you lot up. I fully understand why a lot of you are pessimistic.

Do you still speak to Methven? Is that where you get your info?
Do i speak to a mate almost daily yes, but do i get my info off him, no. i have now lost my best 2 club sources, so anything i get now comes from agents and FA i deal with.
I dont really understand how its possible ro be self sufficient from day one?

We are well short and have no assets
I think they thought with new owners we would have 26-28000 card holders the new kit, the new sponsors, the new catering facilities inside the ground we would have a few quid with the reduced wages and paying off old debts.
IMHO i think if they don't invest in 5 proper players, and a couple more fringe players we will be stuck here for another season.
