How to deal with midges?



Family have always found jungle formula to be pretty effective. I've had the odd bite but I'm not plagued by them. My wife certainly is; she seems to be a magnet for them.

We bought a biteaway device a couple of years back and it seems to stop the rot once you've been bitten. It has a small ceramic heat spot that applies the old hot spoon treatment to a very precise area. I would buy one of those.
 
Fuck all - I've tried everything and nothing works including the expensive sprays and lotions - I just get pissed and let the little fuckers feast on me

The worst thing is my gf never gets a single bite while I'm covered - we went walking in Yorkshire on Sunday and I got tortured by horseflies and she doesn't have a single bite - same with mossies when we're abroad
 
Best thing I've used is Jungle Formula. I have to get the max strength stuff because
everything that bites or stings f***ing loves me. If a mozzie bites me I'm in agony for days and days. I never was allergic though until I hit my 30s.

The latest to feast on my heaomoglobin are Flower Bugs.

The little feckers were flying onto me when I brushed past the Budlea when I was cutting the grass the other day. I felt two of the bites. One on my calf and the other on the fleshy bit of my inside arm.

Their bites don't half hurt and cause a huge welt. Not good.

Never worked for me - I still got tortured

I've been bitten by the twats all my life and I've never found anything that stops them - I've just come to the conclusion that if I want to enjoy the outdoors in nice weather (which I do) then I have to endure being covered in red itchy blotches
 
I'm just one of those lucky ones, I've worked/lived in some right shit holes, deepest Mekong Delta, Jungles of Borneo & Indonesia and mozzies just hardly bite. I've had colleagues wrapped up to the hilt, still bitten, other have got dengue through it, but they just seem to avoid me.

Apparently, rather than pierce your skin (like a mosquito does) horse flies have serrated, knife like mouth parts that slice your flesh open 😑

Vitamin B1 Compound taken for a fortnight before you go and continue while you are away and for a week or two when you get back.
Smidge is good and I have just got some stuff called Peaceful Sleep, it's South African and supposed to be better than lion shite.
