Again mate, there is a massive area between hitting everything out the ground (or trying to), and blocking every single ball.
Pushing for singles, turning them into twos, hitting bad balls along the ground for four. It's been ridiculously passive
It is customary to score runs quicker when the ball gets old and the bowlers tire. They’ve sped up. If they’d started with a bit more intent , and then sped up….well
you’re taking what I’m saying wrong. I’m not asking them to go mental and start hitting. It’s about setting up a chance with some smart cricket. And if you lose a couple of wickets, fine you block.
Hussain and Doull talking total sense.
Does anyone remember Shai Hope at Leeds? 3.52 they went at to win by 5 wickets.
New Zealand should have just said time lads,
think missing stokes and buttler means we can’t really chase games like that as we have no one in this current 11 who id really feel confident taking it on. Sib blocked a lot which the more modern fan didn’t like seeing I guess but 20-30years ago would be applauded a lot more. Was always England’s plan to take that draw we move on
Nasser wouldnt have been thinking about the paying public if he had been captain of that batting line up in these conditions. Root explained himself well.
Hope not mateIf Burns is injured here we may get the @Voice of fair play dream opening partnership of Sibley and Hameed
That's two ways.Hope not mate
Sibley showed again as if we did not already know, he can only bat one way slow and slower!!
Not at all Root was absolutely clear that he was delighted that our batsmen didn’t get out as he felt they had been too way to get out in the first innings. He realised that scoring runs was difficult and accepted I think fairly early on that the win was out of the equation. If what Root was saying is true then I think he’ll be quite disappointed with Burns and particularly Sibley for their approach.

i wouldn’t care I agree with you on Sibley in general I just think today is the wrong day to criticise him
I agree, the bottom line for me is top class cricketers should be able to adapt to the game situation.Root’s BBC interview suggests he was disappointed with proceedings beyond the opening spell with the new ball. He’d not say it like.
With Sibley, I’ve no problem him playing his game which is attritional, unattractive but effective for him. That said, he very quickly has to develop his game to the point that he can punish bad balls. Regardless of situation, you need a shot to ease pressure and not get boxed in. Today, and in previous games, he blocked half volleys and even failed to properly hit two slow full tosses off the spinner. He is very limited and as a result needs to do something else. A simple thing is to be more positive in defence and look for singles, putting pressure on the field and not just allowing the opposition to be entirely settled against him. Whether we had a chance of chasing today’s total is up for debate but to me his approach throughout his innings lacked pro-activity and positive intent that made that total a complete non starter.
